Reprogram a Genie Universal Keypad: Quick Steps

  1. Press and hold the PROGRAM and UP/DOWN buttons.

    • When the light comes back on the keypad, your garage door will be programmed.

  3. If you're using a Chamberlain, LiftMaster, or Craftsman garage door opener that has a yellow LEARN/PROGRAM button, use these steps to reprogram your keypad: [3]
    • Enter a new personal PIN on the keypad (3 to 8 digits).

Resetting a Genie WKP or GK-R Wireless Keypad

  1. Continue holding for 5 seconds. You can release the buttons once you hear a tone. When you release the keys, the LED will flash and then turn off. This resets your Genie wireless keypad back to its default settings. [4]
    • The default code for your keypad is 3-5-7 . You will use this code until your garage door is programmed, and then you can change it.
    • If your Genie wireless keypad is in a black case, it's likely one of these models.
  2. The process to enter programming mode will be a little different depending on your opener model: [5]
    • If your garage door opener was released between 1995 and 2011, just press the Learn Code button on the garage door opener once, and the red LED will flash.
    • On more recent models, your garage door opener will have up/down buttons and a Program button. To enter programming mode:
