This wikiHow teaches you how to send a video to someone on Discord using a phone, tablet, or computer. No matter which platform you're using, you can share videos up to 10 MB in size in a chat channel or direct message. If you want to be able to send larger videos (up to 500 MB), you can subscribe to Discord Nitro to increase your file sending limits, or consider uploading your video to another site, such as Google Drive or Dropbox, and then simply sharing a link to your video from your chosen website or cloud service.

On a computer, navigate to a channel or chat in the Discord app or website. Click the + icon next to the message field and select Upload a File . Browse for your video, click Open , and hit Enter . In the mobile app, tap +, find the video in your gallery, and tap Send .

-
Click the chat in which you want to share the video. This can be either a chat in a server or a private chat.
- To send a video in a direct message, click the blue Discord game controller icon at the top left, and then select the conversation with the person you want to message.

Select Upload a File . Your computer’s file browser will open.
-
Navigate to and double-click your video. You can also select the video and click Open in your file browser. A thumbnail of the video will appear in the message field at the bottom of the Discord window. As long as the video is 10MB or less, you'll now have the option to type a comment and/or mark the video as a spoiler.
- If the video is too large to send, you'll see an error that says so. If you subscribe to Discord Nitro, you can send videos up to 500 MB. [2] X Research source If you don't want Nitro, you can upload the video somewhere else (like Dropbox) and share it as a link, or just send it through an app other than Discord.
-
Add a comment (optional) and hit ↵ Enter . You can also mark the video as a spoiler if you need to by clicking the eye symbol at the top of the thumbnail. Hit Return or Enter on your keyboard to upload the file to the conversation.
- If you change your mind about uploading the video, click the red trash can icon at the top of the thumbnail to delete it.
Using a Phone or Tablet
-
Open the Discord app on your phone or tablet. It's the purple icon with a white game controller inside.
-
Tap the chat or channel in which you want to send a video. You can upload a video to a channel or send it to someone in a direct message.
- To send someone a direct message, tap the icon of a speech bubble at the top left corner of the app, tap the person's name, and then tap Message .
- To enter a chat channel, find the server with the channel you want in the left-hand menu bar, tap the server icon, and then tap the name of the channel.
-
Tap the + icon. It's on the left side of the typing area.
-
Scroll through your gallery to find the video you want to send. By default, your phone’s photo gallery should open when you tap the + icon. Scroll through your images until you find the video you want.
- If it's your first time sending a photo or video, you may be asked if you want to give Discord access to your photos. You'll need to give full access if you want to send videos.
- Depending on your phone OS, you might also see the option to access your phone’s files instead of your photo gallery. Tap the Files icon if your video is stored in your phone’s file manager app.
-
Tap the video you want to send. You can select multiple videos if you like. A checkmark will appear in the top right corner of all your selected videos and images.
-
Tap the Send button. It's the blue oval with a white paper airplane inside. This sends the video to the selected user or channel.
- If the video is too large to send, you'll see an error that says so. If you subscribe to Discord Nitro, you can send videos up to 500 MB. If you don't want Nitro, you can upload the video somewhere else (like Dropbox) and share it as a link, or just send it through an app other than Discord.
- If you're using an Android and are unable to select a video, open your Gallery app instead, select the video, tap the Sharing icon (a sideways V with three dots), and then select Discord . At that point, you can choose a channel or DM to send the video to.

QuestionWhen I send a video, it won't let me view it, I have to download it to view it. What do I do?HagukananTop AnswererIt may be because the video file is extremely large, or that your video isn't in the right format and Discord doesn't recognize it. Make sure your video is in an mp4 format -- there are plenty of sites that you can use to convert it if it's not -- then try again.
