Deduce if your Discord server is really gone, or if you were kicked/banned
PDF download Download Article

When your Discord server suddenly vanishes from your server list, it’s fair to assume that it was deleted. But how can you be sure? We’ll walk you through several different ways to determine if your server was deleted (or if you were simply kicked/banned from it), so you can figure out the best next steps to take.

Quick Steps

  1. Scan your server list and see if it’s there.
  2. Ask a friend if they can access the server.
  3. Search for the server using Server Discovery on desktop or the web.
  4. Attempt to rejoin the server with a new invitation link.
  5. Check if Discord is down.
  6. Request a data package from Discord and see if the server is listed there.
  7. Ask Discord support for help.

How to Tell if a Server Was Deleted

  1. If the server no longer appears in your server list, it's possible the server was deleted. However, it's also possible that you were kicked or banned from the server.
  2. If you're still not sure whether the server still exists, the best thing to do is reach out to someone you know from the server. Send a DM to a friend and ask if the server still exists, and whether they can invite you. You can also try reaching out to a mod to see if you're on the banned list.
    • If you were banned, you can reach out to the mod (respectfully) to ask them why. You might be able to get them to unban you, depending on the reason you were banned.

  3. Scroll to the very bottom of your server lists on desktop (or web) and click on the compass icon. Then, type in the server name you’re looking for.
    • If you can see the server and join it: You were kicked but not banned.
    • If you can’t see the server: The server could be deleted OR an admin turned off Server Discovery.
    • Important note: Server Discovery is only available on desktop and the browser version of Discord—there’s no compass icon on the Discord mobile app.
  4. Ask a friend or fellow server member if they can send you an invitation code to the server, or search the server’s name online to find a public link that way. If the link is invalid, read the white text for context on why you can’t join. It might say:
    • Unknown Invite: The invitation link expired
    • Ask for a new invite: The invitation code isn’t correct
    • You must leave a server first to join: You’re already part of 100 servers (200 on Nitro).
    • The user is banned from this guild: You’re banned from the server.
  5. A data package is a digital archive of your time on Discord, including your activity in Discord servers. It takes 30 days for Discord to send you your data package, but once you have it, you can look for the server by its name and ID. [1]
    • Request from desktop:
      • Go to User Settings .
      • Go to Privacy & Safety > Request Data .
      • Hit Request My Data , followed by Okay .
    • Request from mobile:
      • Tap your profile picture, followed by the gear icon.
      • Tap Privacy & Safety > Request all of my data .
      • Tap Request My Data , followed by Okay .
  6. If you still aren’t sure what the status of a Discord server is (whether it’s one you were a member of or your own), reaching out to the Discord Support team is your best bet. Click or tap here to submit a request. (Keep in mind, though, that it might take at least a day or 2 for a team member to respond to your message.) [2]
    • Try choosing Help & Support for the What can we help you with? category, and General Question in the Type of question? category. Try to include as much information as you can about the server, like the name (and server ID , if you know it).

Why Discord Servers Disappear

  1. When server admins delete a server, all members are automatically removed, and the server itself is removed from each member’s server bar. If you suddenly lose access to a server, deletion could be the cause.
    • What to do: DM a friend or fellow server member and see if they can find the server. If neither of you can find it, there’s a good chance it was deleted.
  2. If a moderator decides to remove you from the server through a temporary kick or permanent ban, you won’t be able to access the space anymore. The Discord server will be missing from your sidebar, almost as if deleted.
    • What to do: Find an invitation link to the Discord server (either online or from a friend) and see if you’re able to rejoin. If you are, you were only kicked; if not, you were banned.
    • If you can’t get your hands on a code to the server, there’s a chance that the server was deleted.
  3. It’s possible to report servers on the mobile app. If enough people report a server to Discord, the platform might take action and ban it.
  4. If you’re struggling to access your own Discord server, there’s a chance that someone could’ve hacked into your account and deleted the server.
    • What to do: Go to your Settings and change your password if you suspect that someone hacked your account. If you haven’t already, head to the Account section of your profile to set up 2FA, which adds more security.
  5. Discord is known to experience plenty of glitches from time to time, which may temporarily impact your ability to find and access the server. In these instances, Discord may display a red exclamation mark in the server bar to indicate a server outage. [3]
    • What to do: Check the Discord Status site to see if there are any recent issues with Discord.
