How to Play Truth or Drink

PDF download Download Article
  1. Get everyone a drink, or grab a liquor bottle and some shot glasses. Either pull up a list on your phone (* cough cough, this article *) or write out questions on little paper slips ahead of time to pick out of a hat or bowl. [8]
    • Decide how much alcohol people should drink on each turn if they choose to. Depending on how difficult or embarrassing your questions are, you could ask people to take a full shot or just a sip.
    • If you think people will be drinking a lot (rather than truthing), it’s recommended to stick to low-alcohol options like beer, wine, or heavy-on-the-mixer cocktails.
  2. The opposing player can either answer or take their drink. They then get to ask a new question to the other player(s). If you’re playing in a group, decide if players will randomly ask questions to each other or go in a certain order. [9]
    • You can also assign one person to be the question master, meaning they won’t participate in the game but will be in charge of who gets asked which questions.
    • You can also incorporate Truth or Drink into other drinking games.
    • For example, if you’re playing King’s Cup , make players answer a Truth or Drink question when they pull a red or black face card.

      • Remember that the game is supposed to be fun. Respect everyone’s comfort level, and don’t pressure anyone to drink if they say no or seem hesitant.
