Placing an Order

  1. The home page displays restaurants that are currently open for delivery/pickup. Tap on a restaurant to view its menu.
    • The search bar allows you to narrow the list down to specific cuisines and food types.
    • The number beside the restaurant name is the Skip Score. This is a 1-10 rating based on reviews, popularity, and overall customer experience.
    • You can choose to sort the listings based on Skip Score, estimate time of arrival, and delivery fee.

Tip: Some restaurants offer free delivery if your order's subtotal is over a certain price!

  2. The menu screen lists all available items, their descriptions, and prices.
  3. Tap on an item to view it in more detail. Specify the quantity and any special instructions. Tap Add to order when satisfied to add it to your cart.
    • The special instructions text field allows you to request changes to that item (for instance, "no tomatoes"). If you or another person has a food allergy, this is where you would mention that.
    • Some restaurants let you make modifications to an item directly. When an item gives a " x items still required" prompt, this means you will need to specify sides or add-ons. For example, if you're ordering a burger from a fast food restaurant, tapping that item allows you to customize your burger toppings, substitute a salad instead of fries, and choose an iced coffee instead of a soda.
  4. Tap on View order . This screen shows everything you've ordered and the subtotal. You can tap on an item to edit it if needed, remove, or add items. When you are satisfied, tap Checkout .
  5. This screen is where you double-check the information necessary for your order to be delivered.
    • Confirm whether you want the order to be delivered to your doorstep or if you will be picking it up at the restaurant yourself.
    • Select the order time. ASAP means the order will be placed and prepared immediately according to the restaurant's stated estimated time. You can also pre-order for delivery/pickup at a later time,
    • Verify the delivery location. You may also include special driving instructions for the courier to follow (e.g. a buzzer code or unit number).
    • Choose how much you'd like to tip the courier. 100% of your tip goes to the courier and SkipTheDishes never takes a cut.
    • Optionally, add a voucher or promo code for discounts.
  6. SkipTheDishes supports Visa, MasterCard, and American Express cards, as well as Google Pay and Apple Pay. Input your card number, expiry date, and CVV (3-4 digit security code). You can save this card on your account for next time. When satisfied, tap Select payment .
    • You can also choose to redeem your Skip Reward points (requires the most latest app update) for discounts on your order. Otherwise, the "Don't use points" option is enabled by default.

FYI: Normally, SkipTheDishes accepts cash payments. However, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, many restaurants have urged patrons to use cards instead and may not accept cash payments at this time.

  7. Once everything looks good, tap Place order to send it off to the restaurant. You should receive a confirmation email shortly.

Tracking Your Order

  1. Once it's confirmed, the restaurant will begin its preparation. At this point, the screen will change to a map with an estimated time for delivery.
  2. Once your order is almost prepared, the app will assign a nearby courier. You'll receive periodic updates on the status of your order and see the remaining delivery time. The map view allows you to track in real-time the location of your courier as he/she drives.
  3. Shortly before the courier's estimated arrival time, you should receive a notification giving you a head's up. If you've written down special instructions for the driver, he/she will try to follow them.
    • If you have chosen to pick it up at the restaurant yourself, you'll instead receive an update indicating the order is almost ready. When you arrive at the restaurant, let the staff know you are picking up an online order through SkipTheDishes and give your order number (on invoice) or phone number.

Did You Know? To support social distancing efforts and other public health guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic, SkipTheDishes offers "Contactless Delivery". When the courier arrives at the door, he/she will contact you through your phone number, drop off your order at a safe spot, and wait for you to pick it up. This system aims to limit person-to-person contact.

  4. Although this is entirely optional, providing a brief review helps to improve the experience for other customers. Restaurants are responsible for your order's preparation, accuracy, and packaging. Couriers are responsible for transportation and handling.

      • SkipTheDishes is not responsible for any food preparation. This falls on the restaurant. As such, make sure you disclose any food allergies or dietary restrictions when placing your order.
      • Any orders containing alcohol must be age-verified with the courier. The legal drinking age in Canada is 18 in the provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, and Quebec; and 19 in the rest of the provinces and territories. If you have ordered alcohol, you will need to show government photo ID to the courier, with the name on your ID matching the name on your order.
