Are you wondering why RTT randomly turns on for some calls? Although designed to turn real-time communication into text-based communication to help users who are deaf or hearing impaired, this feature can get annoying when it glitches. Follow this troubleshooting guide to fix RTT when it turns on randomly on both Android and iPhones.
Easily Fix RTT When It Randomly Turns On
When RTT randomly turns on when you're making or receiving a call, restart your phone to get rid of any temporary glitches. Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to make sure those features aren't the problem, then see if the other person isn't using RTT; if they are, you'll see it activated on your end.
Steps
-
Restarting can clear temporary glitches. Your software can glitch to activate RTT for calls even if you've turned it off.
- If you have an Android, press and hold the side button and then drag the slider to power off your phone. Press the side button again to turn it back on.
- If you have an iPhone, press and hold the side button and a volume button, drag the slider to power off your phone, and then press the side button again to turn your phone on. For iPhones with a Home button, press and hold the side button, drag the slider to power off, and then press the side button again to turn it back on. [1] X Research source

One can be glitching and turning on RTT. If you're using Wi-Fi, turn it off to use cellular data. Alternatively, if you're connected to something using Bluetooth, disable that connection and turn it off.
- You'll find the Wi-Fi icon and Bluetooth icons in the Quick Settings panel on Android and in Control Center on iPhone. Tap the icons to turn those features off.

Deleting calls might cancel RTT settings. Users on reddit [2] X Research source claim that doing this works for both iPhone and Android.
- Open your Phone app, click the History tab, and delete calls that have the RTT symbol next to them (it looks like a phone receiver over a grid of squares).
- Here are more detailed steps to do this in Android and here's how to delete calls from call history on iPhone.
- The RTT settings should be erased and no longer activate in calls.
