Whether in a university setting or out in the workforce, an information technology (IT) report describes a specific tech question and the research you completed to answer that question. As a result of your research, you'll come to specific conclusions, then outline recommendations on how to implement your conclusions in the sector you studied or work in. IT reports are designed so that readers don't necessarily need to read every section to understand the thrust of your findings. Because of this, their structure is formulaic and predictable. [1]

  1. The title page of your report is typically its own separate page, with the report itself following. Apart from the title of your report, the title page typically includes your name, the date, and who you're writing the report for. [2]
    • For example, if you're in school, your title page would include the name of the class you're writing the report for along with your professor or instructor.
    • If you're writing the report for the fulfillment of a particular degree, the title page usually includes language to that effect. For example, you might write "Submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the MSIT degree."
