  1. It’s in the panel on the left side of Reddit under "Communities".
    • To create a subreddit, you must meet certain requirements: Your account must be at least 30 days old, and you must have some amount of positive karma . The positive karma requirements are kept private to prevent spam on the site.
    • You can do this using your computer's web browser or the mobile app on iOS or Android.
  2. You need to fill out this form to create your community. Enter the following information:
    • Community name: What you enter here is how other Redditors will find your community, like reddit.com/r/catsinhats . The name cannot be more than 20 characters. You cannot change the subreddit name later, so make sure you have the spelling and capitalization the way you want.
    • Description: Use this space to describe the subreddit you want to create.
    • Click Next to continue.

  3. Click Add to add an image for your community's banner and icon. You can edit the community's images at any time.
    • Click Next to continue.
  4. Select up to 3 topics to help Redditors not in your community find it.
    • Use the search bar to find specific topics or browse the list of available categories.
    • Click Next to continue.
  5. You must choose between the privacy options at the top. If you decide later on to change the community type, you'll have to submit a request, which is not an instant change.
    • Public means that your community will appear in searches, and anyone can view, post, and comment in the subreddit.
    • Restricted means that your community will not show up in searches, and only those approved to join can comment. Anyone can view the posts.
    • Private means that only those approved to join your community can view, post, and comment.
  6. If you toggle this on, users must be 18 or older to contribute and view the subreddit's posts.
    • If one of the topics you chose earlier is a "Mature (18+) topic, this toggle is automatically enabled.
    • This toggle will also flag your community as NSFW (Not Safe For Work) .
  7. You'll be taken to your community, where you can edit the banner and create a community guide (your rulebook).
    • You can't delete a community that you don't want anymore, but you can make it private. [1]
