A good blog post has five important elements. First, your post needs to have a clear subject that doesn't touch on too many things. Second, your post should have a great, strong, concrete, and punchy headline that attracts your reader. Third, your post needs to have a hook—a phrase or sentence that attracts the reader to your blog. Fourth, your post should have a strong opinion and personality that distinguishes it from other blog posts with opposing viewpoints. Finally, your blog post needs to offer a solution to problem it mentions at the beginning.

As long as you want. If you want shorter blog posts, you can try to aim for 250+ words or similar. If you want to cover a few different features in-depth, you can a) put them into their own separate posts, or b) try to aim for 800+ words or similar. However, if you can use less words that what you're aiming for and still have the basic gist in your message, go for it! Shorter blog posts are actually better most of the time, as people don't have much time.

GitHub Pages is a free service for hosting websites. In fact, you can go to lab.github.com for how to create a simple blog on there. However, most people use Blogger or other visual blog builders.
