Hey everybody! As we all know, the redesign brought some changes to category pages which had both pros and cons. While some folks like browsing the tile/picture view, others prefer an organized list that takes a shorter time to load, like on the old site. After @Krystle and I passed on the feedback that you guys shared about how you use categories, the wikiHaus set out to improve the new design - @JackHerrick came up with a plan and @Jordansmall put it into action. The change is now live! If you look on a category page now, you’ll see two options at the top: View as Images and View as Text (see here ). By clicking on View as Text, you get an organized list! In most categories it will be alphabetical, but in those like the Copyright and NFD categories, the list will appear in chronological order, like it used to on the old version of the site. Hopefully, this will make categories easier to navigate for everybody! Choice is a good thing:slight_smile:Everyone at the wikiHaus wants to send a huge thanks out to you all for being patient while the change was implemented. Particular thank-yous to those who reached out about the issue with clear and helpful feedback: @Maluniu , @Flickety , @Byankno1 , @Bokehmon , @Adelaide1230 , @Jordan , @Clarinetdude , @Abrogation316 , @Kalpit , @Carolyn-Barratt , and @Loki27D ! Hope you guys like the change. As always, if you see any bugs with it, let us know! And please note that this change will take up to 2 days to show up for logged-out users (but it should be visible to logged-in users now). Happy Friday, all!

Hugs to all of you!!

Awesome! Kudos to you guys for getting this happening so fast!

Awesome, thanks for the change!

Awesome! It’s great that it happened so fast!

Thanks for the choice, it is much appreciated. A question - am I seeing the whole amount of articles per category? I don’t see a number count and in some of the places I checked yesterday, the total amount of articles didn’t seem like all I should be seeing. I would like reassurance.:slight_smile:Another thing I noticed is how easily the view pops back to images. It’s most likely simple bumps on my touch sensitive evil mouse and the ease with which the Mac OS tries to scroll off a page with a mere breath but I was wondering if there was a way to make the text option permanent through user preferences? From the workhorse side of things (and optimisation of viewing without waiting eternally for image download), I will rarely need the image option.

@Flickety , I did a number of spot checks when I was trying out the feature and found all the articles were visible in those categories that I looked at – and the engineer who did it said there haven’t been any changes in the code there. Did you have a category in mind that doesn’t look right? Is your mouse maybe bumping you to “back-page” to the previous link you were on (which in this case would be the image view)? As long as you’re seeing the “&viewMode=text” at the end of the link, it should stay in text mode. But I know that I sometimes have an issue with my mouse where it sends me to my previous page, regardless of whether I’m in categories or anywhere else on any site (or any site)! Maybe that’s what’s happening - your mouse going “back”? There shouldn’t be anything about the List View that acts any differently from any other page on the site, though - it’s just another link, like any other, and if you hit back you’ll go back to the page that you were on previously (in this case, Image View). Does that make sense? Having a preference setting could definitely be a neat idea for the future! I’ll pass it on! All sights are set on the MW upgrade next, but I can definitely see the benefit for future expansion there. Thanks for the feedback!

Yay, me gusta. HOWEVER - is it possible in the text version to distinguish featured articles? This was a help for me back in the days of pawing through categories to learn in the fullest context, rather than walking into a crummy stub and having to go back out. Right now I’m trying to use wH to learn how to do Thanksgiving but there’s no way to distinguish a full blown, A+ material article from “1. cook a turkey 2. cut it 3. eat” type of article:confused:I realize why it’s done, sort of - encourage people flipping through pages to edit something that’s “inferior” - but it’s frustrating for people trying to learn about something new. Two cents, again.
