I am trying to save an edit to one of my articles recommending a service I recently discovered that spots fake reviews. I get ‘Edit aborted by hook’ when I try to do so. Here is the full screenshot:
I have never encountered such a problem before. Is this a possible bug?

There’s a blacklisted word in the edit summary. You can’t use the word “Fakespot” in the edit summary. Try to remove that and see if it will go through.

You will also have to remove “Fakespot” from the article if it is in there.
I checked MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist and Spam blacklist and do not see the blacklisted URL on there. As an established contributor, I am trying to share information about fakespot.com
, which I discovered yesterday through CNBC on YouTube. It makes little sense that efforts to block spam are hurting contributors like you and me.
Maybe what we need is this “Extended confirmed” access level as well, which if implemented like on Wikipedia, gives editors that are 30 days old and at least 500 edits additional privileges.
It’s not on the spam blacklist, it’s on the phrase blacklist
. If you want to include it in an article, then an admin is going to have to remove it.

Yeah, this is the message you get when something is on the phrase blacklist. I’m not going to remove it since I’m not sure who added it or what the context of adding it was.
@JayneG
or @Eric
can the phrase be removed then so I can add the information? Also I think this can be deprecated because we have the abuse filter with added advantage that the phrases can be hidden altogether and not just in one long comment.

I’ve updated it, so you should be able to publish

Thanks @JayneG
. I think this functionality is probably better included in an abuse filter. “Your edit has been disallowed because it appears to add a banned keyword. If you believe your edit is constructive, please contact an administrator or post a message on the Help Team or Forums, explaining what you are trying to do.”

Appreciate the feedback, but we’re going to leave it as-is for now.

Sorry to tell you, but it seems like it is popping out yet again. I was trying to leave a message for someone, but the system won’t let me.
(Note, I tried to message without loading the editor, and the message quickly disappeared. Message was:
Thanks! You may expect me as an admin within a few more months or years, but who knows? Meanwhile, I’m in the process of being an NAB, so stay tuned!
Your message wouldn’t trigger anything - what I’m guessing happened is that the blacklisted phrase is already on their Talk page and is preventing any further edits from going through. Can you put a link to the Talk page? We can find and remove the phrase so you can post your message afterwards
