I routinely patrol 4 NFD categories. I wish I had time for more. In both the “Character” and the “Expired Date Stamp” categories there is an ever growing list of “How to Be Like …” articles which are being passed through the VoteBot and kept despite the fact that they are not, in fact, in keeping with the wikiHow character standards. The VoteBot is not a popularity survey. Without regard to the opinions expressed in the nfd voter concensus to keep the article, if it does not meet the character standards guidelines of wikiHow, the title should be changed, or the article should be deleted. Please refer to our article concerning writing a character article [[Write a Character Article (a “Be Like” Article) on wikiHow]]. The article may be well written, formatted, structured, etc., but if it is not suitable for the title or the type of article as it is intended to be, it should be changed. The vote should not be for the quality of the article, but should be voted in accordance with the nfd. The voter tool doesn’t ask whether it’s a masterpiece of literary achievement. It asks whether it should be deleted based solely on one criteria, and that is whether it is in keeping with wikiHow character standards. All of the articles I have encountered have been nominated, kept through the VoteBot, and nominated again for the same reasons. None of them meet the character standards, yet after much time, more than a year in some cases, the nfd is still being placed on the article. I believe there comes a time when, despite the passage through the VoteBot, if the character standards are still in question, the article should be retitled so as to reflect that it is not a character article or deleted.
Hmmm. All votebot does is rearrange the order of the tips. Did you mean NFD Guardian?
Has anyone considered eliminating “How to Be Like …” as an allowable topic?
I think that that is a problem because there are legitimate articles in that category, like ones about cosplay or acting in a play.
Well, I wrote 3 Be Like articles. Don’t really think they should be removed. Be Like refers to the whole person or character while cosplay means only to dress as and act is only how to act like them. Be Like is referring to all of them including how to look like them…
No. In the discussion page there is a notation that the “A consensus for keeping was achieved, and the page was kept.” Sorry, it’s not VoteBot, it’s NFD Voter Tool.
The legitimate articles in that category have different titles. See the article cited above for a list.
The intent of your articles may be correct, but “Be Like …” is the wrong title. You can’t be another person. When you refer to the whole person, that’s what you are trying to do. That is why the article above was written.
There’s a difference between “being another person” and imitating their style, behaviour, etc. That’s why “How to Be Like…” should be changed to “How to Act/Look/Dress/Behave/Dance Like…” or even worded as “How to Cosplay/Emulate X’s Style/Do X’s Hair in the Movie Y” From what I’ve observed doing NAB, RC patrol, and NFD Guardian, new character articles are often moderate- to low-quality written by a youth author. Whenever I see the title “Be Like…” I automatically tag it with {{nfd|cha}}. When I do NFD Guardian, it’s rare for me to vote to keep a character article. @Davjohn
To avoid confusion, I changed the thread title to “Issue with NFD Voter Tool”
