What is your Christmas or Holiday traditions?

I have a couple. The first is me, my parents and my sister go to the worlds biggest residential light display, right down the street of my house.

The second is on Christmas Eve, my whole family goes to my grandmothers house and opens presents from each other. My grandmother even makes us stockings! I usually get more presents on Christmas eve than Christmas morning!

And if your wondering, on Christmas morning, me and my parents and semi biological sister (half sister) open presents from each other! Then during Christmas afternoon my grandparents come over and see what presents  we got then we take down all the decorations.

My mom’s friend and at least some of her family are over at our house for dinner on Christmas Eve.

  1. Always do the shopping before December, if not possible then early December.

  2. Christmas tree and decorations comes up 2-3, sometimes 4 days after Thanksgiving.

  3. Make plans ahead of time

  4. Get new Chinese calendar a few days after Christmas (or earlier)

  5. Have a small party and invite neighbors and friends, particularly elders from the local Norman church (which my dad is friends with many of them).

  6. Presents go under the tree automatically instead of waiting til Christmas eve to do it. Sometimes, however, we have little kids around and the cats can get to them so we hide some upstairs and bring them down on Christmas eve.

  7. Keep a list of everything so nothing gets lost.

  8. Send/give cards during the second or third week of December.

  9. Light a large scented candle with an actual wreath (not a plastic one!) around it at meal time during Christmas day.

  10. No prayers, apart from the ones the church elders say. You can join in if you want, they are not offended by you not saying them.

  11. One cracker per person, paper hats and the crackers themselves must be recycled and they must be silenced… no bang parts inside!

  12. Mince pies are usually eaten by visitors and my sisters before Christmas and carrots from the supermarket never last that long so we don’t bother with that… we just sit out a glass of whisky or milk and gingernut cookies (since only 2 people in the house eat them and no one in neighborhood seems to like them). Eh, we do things differently.

That is about it
