Welcome to the latest wikiHaus Lab update! Here’s what’s happening for February 29th:
What’s happening?wikiHow AI: We have a completely new and separate wikiHow site focused on AI initiatives that just went live today! It’s aptly called wikiHow AI
- Learning with AI
. The product and engineering teams have been working on creating AI Apps that are super-targeted and can give instant help to someone for a very specific topic that would be too targeted for a general wikiHow article (ie {{nfd|van}}
). Right now, the site is focused on a few different topics like relationship advice, car maintenance help, and appliance troubleshooting, but it will likely evolve and change moving forward as we find out what works and what readers find most helpful or interesting.
We’re also experimenting having AI write some hyper-specific articles that are housed on the new AI site, but there is no plan to compete with the main wikiHow site in any way. These articles are always checked by a human editor before going live, and have the disclaimer “ This article was created with AI assistance and reviewed by human editors.
” We stand by our policy for the main site that we do not allow AI-generated content within main wikiHow articles, and there’s no plan to change that.
Check out the new site here and feel free to let us know if you have any feedback: https://www.wikihow-ai.com/
We’ve also added an AI Chatbot to the Android app, and another on the Relationships hub! Relationships: Practical How-Tos For Your Romantic Life
If you have any other ideas of how we can incorporate AI into wikiHow to help continue to grow and stay relevant with the ever-evolving internet landscape, let us know! No idea is too small or too big!
What’s happening?Article format experiments: The content team is experimenting with some different ideas in between the introduction and steps of an article. For example, they are trying out “ Simple Tips
” and “ Quick Steps
” similar to the “Things You Should Know” section. The goal here is to try and get into more Answer Boxes on Google that give a preview of the information before clicking on the link to go to the article. So far, these are showing positive results!
What’s happening?Quiz Packs: We have some new User Journeys that are completely made of quizzes. Quizzes are still super popular with our readers, so this is a fun one!

Hi, Jayne. Wow, so much hard work packed in this update!
In addition to playing with the AI tools you mentioned, I found AI incorporated into an article I started a million years ago: How to Change a Car Battery: 12 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow
.
I used the AI chatbot on that article to ask a question about my car, and the response was accurate!
I love that the AI tools are primarily trained on user manuals, so the data is unbiased, factual, and directly from the manufacturer.
What has the chatbot on the relationship hub been trained on? wikiHow relationship articles?

For sure, there’s been a lot of work behind the scenes and it’s so exciting to see it come to life!
Yes, the relationship hub chatbot has been trained on wikiHow articles - it’s the perfect match…

Very cool to see the car maintenance chatbot on the article as well, thanks for sharing!

The team is aware of this and planning to add the disclaimer down the line. It’s important to remember that these articles aren’t technically hosted on the main site. Yes, if you change the URL like you did, then you can access them to edit them, but only if you’re logged in. No-one would find them on the main site via searching or Google because they’re not indexed on the main site, only wikihow-ai.
Interesting… they show up as being in “quality review” when viewed on the main site. Looks like you did some magic to make them disappear. But when viewing them logged in there is no orange bar. Must there be some hidden template keeping the article in quality review? Aha!
