Welcome to the latest wikiHaus Lab update! Here’s what’s happening for Jun 30th:
What’s happening?Showing the number of page views to some articles on the home page. At the moment this is only showing for logged out readers, but you can see an example of this here
. Do you like this idea? I think it’s fun to show the huge reach that these articles have!
What’s happening?Adding category filters. The team is testing some updates to top category pages, adding popular subcategories at the top of the page so people can quickly filter to see articles in more specific categories. They will likely look something like these
options that we have on the Pro courses page.
What’s happening?Content team tests: The team is working on adding internal links to some articles to see if it helps improve readership. They’re also working on editing and updating some older articles to ensure they are up-to-date, correct and accurate.
Update:The “Things you should know” section test has been doing well, so we’re looking to implement it on more articles moving forward. Once there are some set guidelines, I’ll be sure to share them for anyone looking to incorporate the section into articles you’re writing!
Update:The new quizzes are doing really well and reaching a lot of readers, so you may see more of these popping up, like What's Your Red Flag Quiz - wikiHow
. If you have any ideas for new quizzes, feel free to pop them below.
Coming up:Coupons! The affiliate team has been working on a new concept to try out for wikiHow. Soon we’ll be launching a subdomain that showcases a range of coupon codes from sites around the internet that can help readers accomplish their how-to tasks with a discount. We know that readers are interested in coupons and saving money, so we’re going to list coupons from well-respected companies that really work. We see this as continuing to better serve our readers, with the team making sure that codes and companies are vetted and verified. Just like advertisements and affiliate links, this is a proven additional way to help sustain our company without changing access to any content or usability on the main site. I’ll post the link to the site once it’s up

I loved the page view info on the page. Since wikiHow has so many views as compared to many sites for various topics, this feature will make readers surer of its credibility. Go Content team for working on already published articles and weaving a web of links and working on updating the information.
Congratulations for the success of the Things you should know section and the quizzes.
I like the idea of vetting and making sure that the affiliate links and the new coupons concept are credible. If this information is mentioned along the links, people are likely to feel more relaxed and trust them more.

Just a little bump with the link to the coupon site that’s now up: https://coupons.wikihow.com/
If you happen to notice anything incorrect or out of place, feel free to email or talk page me and I can pass it on

Hi, sorry to bump this thread but I had a question about coupons that I think others may be interested in.
Are there any plans to localise the coupons available on the website for different countries?
For example, I live in Australia, and the majority of the coupons on the page don’t apply here, for example we don’t have home depot or Walmart, so it’s kind of a waste of time displaying these sites, and I know as an Australian it can be quite irritating when websites constantly assume everyone lives in the US
.
Not a big issue, just maybe something to consider?

Thanks for noting this, @Rupert28
. Because the coupons are only focused on US readers at this time, the team is going to look into whether they can make it just show for readers in say, Northern America. Then if they expand to international coupons, they could do that specifically for readers in other countries.

Yeah just hiding them all together would be much better than coupons that either don’t work down here or that aren’t applicable.
Thanks Jayne:)
