Yesterday, I had a problem where I had no internet on my computer. Although that’s my own fault, I tried to use the mobile site to see the diff that was created by this bot. I was astounded to find out that these vids just don’t show at all on my mobile device (whether the page was opened to the mobile site nor the full site on the mobile device). The files just don’t trigger, but do become static images to the position in the video at 0:01 (if you can see it visually). You can check this out when you try this yourself, but I’ll save you from the hassle. I know that firmware in the phones and stuff is different on no matter what computer OS you use, but sometimes the Wikiphotos would be a better option for these situations. Perhaps something could be implemented in the video that triggers the Wikiphoto photos when viewed on a mobile while still triggering the whole video on the full site (which the site should trigger the type of device). I have a Samsung Illusion phone running Android Gingerbread, and also an iPod touch 4th gen and they both don’t show the Wikivids working at all!
wikivids not working on your mobile browser is a mystery for me as I use nokia phones and they work perfectly fine. I still remember the days when nokia could run videos when the latest ones didn’t. Anyways I don’t have a solution for you here but you could download a new updated browser. Hope this helped
Just a quick note: On my Android device, I’m not seeing these vids working on the default browser as well as them not working on the free Google Chrome app. On my iPod touch, they don’t work neither on Safari for iOS nor the Google Chrome app there either. So something’s up!
hmmm… well it works perfectly in my (nokia) device. there must be something wrong here then…
I am sorry I don’t have any solutions right now, (or will ever) but I recommend you to ask your operator what’s up…
Or @mrappbrain
he’s pretty good at stuff like this :-)??
whvid doesn’t work at all for me on my PC. And in articles sometimes I see the static image - but only the first one or two, then blank spaces after that. Not that it matters to me personally, because I don’t see the point in having a video for every single step. But I would like to at least see the static images. Other videos (wikiHow, YouTube, etc.) are all fine. I imagine that if this is a problem for me, it may be a problem for thousands of other potential readers, users of wikiHow as well.

Hey folks! I’m going to get some info on this and get back to you all. I’m not sure of the exact requirements for wikivid to show - I’ll check in with the engineer who works on that, but he’s out sick today. I’ll let you guys know, though

Unfortunately, due to video compatibility and performance issues for, wikivideo is intentionally disabled for some devices. You are indeed correct that it falls back to thumbnails of the video. To your suggestion - we have considered the wikiphoto fallback but, at this time, have not implemented that. It may be something we consider in the future as wikivideo evolves. Thanks for noticing something most others have not!
Ok. I’m okay with this. As long as you consider this idea for further development in an upcoming adjustment, I’d be okay with keeping them this way, temporarily. Thanks.
