Best Dishes in the U.S. by Region

West Coast
When it comes to the sunny, stormy, sparkling Pacific, our easy pick is a good ol’ fish taco. Sure, it’s a little basic, but not everyone has access to fresh-caught seafood, and whether you’re cruising the beach or dodging rainclouds, everything’s better with some battered cod slathered in special sauce, topped with greens, and wrapped in a yummy tortilla.

Mountain West
The Mountain West has a livestock and ranching culture that’s lasted for hundreds of years, even more. So it just makes sense that the most iconic, and most delicious, cultural cuisine from the region is a good, juicy burger, cooked to perfection and topped sparingly with cheese, a bit of lettuce, and a soft, doughy bun. Bonus points if it’s a bison burger.

Southwest
How could we possibly choose a favorite dish from the Southwest? Mexican culture does the heavy lifting here, but the ranching culture is undeniable. For that reason, we’ll go with some Tex-Mex fusion and say our fav dish is a big, plump, carne asada burrito with loads of salsa, some rice for good measure, and black beans to round the whole thing off.

Midwest
Brats, cheese curds, deep-dish pizzas. There’s a lot to love about the Midwest, but if you ask us, we prefer the homestyle, potluck, classic, reliable casserole. It doesn’t matter what kind. Mac ‘n’ cheese ‘n’ beef, mushroom, Jell-O. If it’s in one of those long, deep dishes and covered in tin foil on the picnic table, we want some.

South
Asking us to pick a favorite Southern dish is like asking a mother to pick a favorite child. That said, fried chicken with some collard greens and a side of cornbread. Classic, simple, timeless. Maybe some gumbo or jambalaya if the weather’s a bit nippy.

East Coast
Look, we could write a thousand articles covering all the magical foods one can find on the East Coast. Probably a thousand articles on New York cuisine alone. But in the interest of time, we’re gonna go with a simple, well-crafted bagel with fresh lox, some cream cheese, and a sprinkle of dill. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, best believe.

New England Where would New England be without clam chowder and crab cakes? Oh waiter! Clam chowder and crab cakes for the whole table!
