    If I put foil on the positive side instead of the negative side, will something go wrong?

    The aluminium foil will corrode and disappear. AAA barteries have a lower output current than AA batteries and high drain devices (such as the one pictured above) may not work, or the battery/foil will get very hot as you are exceeding its limits.
