The easiest ways to return to the home screen on any Kindle

While it's easy enough to open up a Kindle book, it's a little less intuitive on how you can get back to the Home screen. In this article, we go over how you can return to the Home screen on a Kindle e-reader (including Paperwhite, Scribe, and Colorsoft), in the Kindle app on your phone or tablet, and in the Kindle web reader. We also go over a few FAQs about the Kindle's Home screen. Keep reading to learn more.

Quick Steps

  1. Tap once in the upper 1/4th of your Kindle screen.
  2. Tap the back arrow that says Home or Library .
  3. Tap the Home button at the bottom of the screen.

  1. If you tap the right place, a menu will expand at the top. If you don't tap high enough, your Kindle will turn to the next page. If this happens, tap the left side of your screen to go back one page, then tap closer to the top of your Kindle's screen.
    • These steps will work on any modern Kindle e-reader, including the Paperwhite and Scribe.
    • Older Kindle e-readers may have a slightly different layout.
  2. If you opened your book from the Home screen, the back button will say Home . If you opened your book from the Library screen, the back button will say Library .

  3. If the back button in Step 2 said Home , you can skip this step as you'll already be at the Home screen. If the back button in Step 2 said Library , simply tap the Home button at the bottom of your screen. [1]
    • If you are in one of the Kindle's menus and not in a book, you can get back to the home screen by clicking the X button to close out of the menu.

  1. When using the Kindle app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad, tapping anywhere in the middle of the screen will zoom out on the page, giving you some extra options.
    • If you tap on the left or right edge of your screen or accidentally swipe instead of tap, you'll just turn the page. Simply tap on the opposite edge or swipe the screen to get back to the page you were on.

    • If you're in one of the menus on the More page, tap the X button to exit the menu, then tap Home at the bottom of the page.

  2. It's in the upper-left corner of the screen. Unlike a Kindle device or the Kindle app on your phone or tablet, there is no Home screen on the Kindle web reader. If you're using Kindle on the web, the Library screen is effectively your Home screen.
    • This is because the Home screen on Kindle devices and/or the Kindle app shows the books in your Library and also suggests new books to purchase from Amazon's Kindle e-book marketplace. On the web, you can simply go to amazon.com or click the cart button in the upper-right corner to go to the Kindle Store.
