Steps
Using the Start Menu
-
Click the Start menu (or press the Windows key). This opens the Windows Start menu.
- If any programs are open, be sure to close them before shutting down your laptop. Similarly, save any unsaved documents before you continue.
- This method will work for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Using Sleep or Hibernate
-
Open the Control Panel. If you want your laptop to go into Sleep or Hibernate mode when you close the lid or press the power button, you can make a quick change in the Control Panel. Press the Windows key, type control panel , and click Control Panel .
- Sleep mode is a low-power state that's useful if you are going to be away from your laptop for a short period of time. When you wake your laptop up from Sleep, you can pick up where you left off.
- Hibernate uses even less power than Sleep mode, but it'll take a little longer for your laptop to wake up. This option is better if you won't be using your laptop for a longer period of time. [2] X Research source
