I REALLY need help!
So I’m a 8th grade homeschooler. My mom started homeschooling me in the middle of 6th grade because of bullies and bad teachers. I also had a friend that is homeschooled, only a grade younger than me, and we live a little far apart and we skyped, but now we are not friends anymore (she wont text me or anything!) So my mom wants me to make friends, only I’m really shy when I go to homeschool activities. So now she wants me to go to High School next year. Only I know nothing about High School! Its supposed to be so different from Elementary school.
So can you tell me what its like, and help me make a decision? I need to know my April. Thanks!
Hello,
Firstly you need to clarify things with your mother.
It is clear that your mother has been changing your schooling for your own good. First, understand why your mother is so concerned about your social life and socializing with the outer world. If you could in a friendly way, Please have your mother read this article:

Since for her it is a matter of change taking you from Home schooling to High school. But for you, it is a matter of a big change. You have your issues like
- How others will treat you?
- How you will blend in with the rest? etc.
Sorry to hear about the friend you seem to have lost touch with. Unfortunately, you must be okay with the fact that People move on. It has nothing to do with what happened or with you. She got involved with and busy with life in her own way.
Homeschool is very convenient and protected.
Let me share the benefits of High School that you will find yourself there.
- You will learn to take care of yourself in the middle of a lot of people or students.
- You will see how different other kids are and know how similar your experiences or fears are with them.
- You will feel a sense of independence and this feeling of independence will allow you to choose, make decisions, make mistakes (which happens to all), regret, feel happy, and move on.
Life is not static or predictable. Your challenge now is to face a new school. Enjoy these challenges while you have school. In a few years, education will get over and you will start working and so on.
You are shy. That is also going to work in your favor. Look at it in this way, since you are shy, you will make lesser mistakes as you will speak lesser and not get yourself into trouble.
This is a smaller version of what I wanted to share with you. If this is enough , that will be really great. If not, please let me know. I’ll be happy to guide or share more.
I am sure you will learn the ways of School and life, well.
