Do you want to share your iPhone's internet connection with another computer, phone, or tablet? When you set up tethering or create a hotspot on your iPhone, you can easily use your mobile data plan to get your Windows PC, Mac, or other devices online. Once you turn on tethering, just connect your other devices to the iPhone using Wi-Fi, a USB cable, or Bluetooth. This wikiHow article teaches how to activate internet tethering on your iPhone. Not all cellular plans support tethering and some providers charge a fee to use hotspots.

Things You Should Know

  • If your cell provider supports it, turn on your iPhone's hotspot in "Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot > On".
  • Use Instant Hotspot on iOS 8.1 or Mac OS X Yosemite or later to connect between iPhones and Macs without a password.
  • Wi-Fi is the fastest connection speed, but Bluetooth is the slowest and safest.

  1. Make sure your hotspot is enabled before you continue.
  2. The process for this varies depending on your device, but you'll be connecting to your iPhone like you would any other wireless network . [4]
    • You can connect a variety of devices to your hotspot, such as a Mac or Windows computer, an Android phone or tablet, or another iPhone.
  3. You'll see your iPhone listed as one of the available wireless networks. The network name is the same as your iPhone's name. [5]
  4. This password is required to connect to the network. You can check the password at any time on your iPhone in the Personal Hotspot menu.
  5. After connecting to the wireless network, your device will be able to use your iPhone's internet connection to browse the internet. Be aware that using your computer on your iPhone's data connection will eat up a lot more data than using a mobile device.

Expert Trick: If you're not getting a very good signal while you're tethering, try moving your phone higher up to make sure there's nothing impeding the signal. For instance, you might put it on a stack of books or on top of your bookshelf to get a stronger connection.
