When to say I love you in a relationship
My gf and I have been dating for almost 2 months. I knew I loved her after about a week but obviously I did not say that to her then. I am thinking of telling her on our 2 month anniversary, which is next week, but I'm not sure if this is a long enough time to wait to say it. My friend says I need to wait 6 months but that feels long to me especially when I am bursting to tell her now. What do you all think? Is there a "right" time?
There's no "right time" to tell someone you love them, every relationship is different. Some people say it after 2 weeks and some people say it after 2 years. But lead up to it with statements like "I think I'm falling for you," "I really like how this relationship is going" or "I love spending time with you." That way, when you finally drop the "I love you," it won't seem out of nowhere. If you say, "I like how things are going here," and she isn't looking for something more serious, that would be her time to say so. If you wait to let her know you want to get more serious until you're confessing your love for her, it may be more devastating if she doesn't feel the same. But no matter when you say it and what the outcome is, it will be fine. And remember, just because you say it, if she isn't ready to say it back, it doesn't mean the relationship is over; she may just need more time, so be patient. Good luck.
I don't think you need to wait 6 months to tell her that you love her. That's an arbitrary timeframe set by your friend that you don't need to listen to. If you feel like you're ready to tell her that you love her, go for it!
Other people have covered good times to say "I love you," but remember that there are also bad times to say I love you. Don't say it when you're asking your girlfriend for something, or it may come across as manipulative. In my experience, saying "I love you" right after sex can go well but it can also go really poorly if the other person feels like you just want them for their body. It might not also be a good idea to say "I love you" in a public place where she feels pressured to say it back if she's not ready
Telling her on your 2 month anniversary is cute! If you want you can even get creative with it and make her a little craft that helps you tell her that you love her.
There is no right time, to tell someone that you love them. When you both feel that the time is right, why don't you both trying say I love to each other at the same time.
