How to Make Eyelashes Longer with Vaseline

If you want long, lush lashes, you might want to reach for the Vaseline in your medicine cabinet before dropping money on more expensive products. While Vaseline might not make your lashes grow longer, it can hydrate them and make them appear thicker. It may also help prevent lash breakage, which can make your lashes appear longer. Vaseline is super hydrating, pretty budget-friendly, and typically safe on sensitive skin, so it’s definitely worth a shot if you want your lashes to look healthier and fuller.

Things You Should Know

Dab away any leftover mascara from your wand and clean the bristles with isopropyl alcohol.
Warm up the Vaseline between your fingers and apply a lot of product to the wand.
Apply the Vaseline directly to your upper and lower lashes before you go to bed.
Rinse off the Vaseline with water when you wake up, or use a cleanser if it's difficult to remove.

Preparing a Mascara Wand

Grab a paper towel. If you use a soft tissue, it will likely cause more of a mess than you began with. Using your paper towel, dab the bristles of your mascara wand. If there is stubborn mascara clinging to the mascara wand, gently wiggle your wand back and forth in a folded paper towel. This will also help spread the bristles.
Now, dip your wand in lukewarm water. Let it sit for 2-4 minutes with all of the bristles fully submerged. This loosens any dried mascara that’s on your wand.

After you’ve let your wand sit in warm water, there may be some mascara still lodged between the bristles. Soak the bristles in isopropyl alcohol to remove these and to sanitize your wand.
Use a paper towel again to gently pat your mascara wand dry. You want the wand to be totally dry before you use it. If you’ve cleaned it ahead of time, store it in a plastic bag to keep it clean and bacteria-free.

Applying the Vaseline

Wash any makeup off of your eyes and lashes. This will make it easier for the Vaseline to work its magic.
Using your clean finger, move the top layer of Vaseline around. This will warm it up and make it easier to apply.
You want to get a heavy amount of Vaseline on your wand. It has a tendency to clump onto the front of the brush. If this happens, simply use a damp paper towel to help spread it evenly down your wand.
Just as if you were applying mascara, apply the Vaseline to your upper lashes. Coat both sides of your lashes thoroughly, making sure not to get any in your eyes. If you wish, you can smudge some of the Vaseline back over your eyelid for smoother skin. If you have sensitive skin, this may cause a reaction, so be sure to test it on the back of your hand before doing this.

Apply to your lower lash line. Dip your wand back in the Vaseline. Being careful, once again, to not get the Vaseline in your eyes, apply it to your bottom lashes.
- Your lashes will clump together when you apply the Vaseline. However, be careful not to put on too much or it will end up all over your face and sheets. You should use enough to coat your eyelashes evenly in one thin coat.
If you apply this every night, the Vaseline will moisturize your lashes and prevent breakage. The conditioning qualities will help prolong the cycle of each eyelash, and your lashes will look fuller and healthier.
When you wake up, wash the Vaseline off. If you have trouble getting the Vaseline off of your eyelashes, try using a cleanser. Because it's oil-based, water might not be enough. Use your regular make-up routine during the day. If you do this consistently, you can see results in as little as three days!

It's highly unlikely. According to the company, if you do happen to get some vaseline in your eyes you should be able to easily wipe it away with a damp washcloth because vaseline does not mix with the water (tears) on the surface of your eye.

Instead of using water and alcohol to clean the mascara brush, I always use baby soap. It is better for the bristles and won't make them brittle. I have been doing this for almost a year now, and I definitely see a difference. I get tons of compliments on how long and natural my lashes look.
Vaseline actually smears your eye makeup and makes it come off faster, so don't do this during the day if you have eyeshadow or eyeliner on and want it to stay on.
I have been using those little brushes you can buy for flossing to apply Vaseline to my lashes. It works great and you can swap them out frequently.
Vaseline can also be used as eye makeup remover. Just apply Vaseline on your eyelids and then gently remove with a cotton pad or face towel.
If you have oily skin, make sure you don't put the Vaseline anywhere that is oily. Try to only get it on your eyelashes and lids. ☺️
Use an eyelash comb to comb out the clumps.
