Although it's not required, preconditioning your Tesla's battery for 30-40 minutes before you depart on a journey is a recommended step to maintaining your car's battery and getting optimal performance. Your car should be plugged in while it's preconditioning, but you can do it without a charger if there isn't one nearby. Even though it's extra time, preconditioning your Tesla's battery comes with some great benefits, which this article will cover, as well as the steps to precondition a Tesla's battery.

-
Adjust the temperature of your car. Drag the slider or change the numbers to indicate what you want the inside to feel like when you get into the car.
-
Plug your car into a charger. You can use a Tesla Supercharger or a non-branded regular charger.
-
Tap the fan icon. This will begin preconditioning your Tesla battery. If your battery is cold, you'll see an orange icon next to the car on your screen as the battery is warming up. [1] X Research source It'll begin charging once the battery has warmed up to an ideal temperature.

- 2 bolts = medium power stations with 25 kW - 75 kW.
- 3 bolts = high power stations with 75 kW chargers and up. (In some regions, 3rd party fast-chargers are noted by dark grey pins).
