    Expert Answer
Balayage creates a smooth color transition throughout the hair. With traditional highlights, foil is placed super close to the scalp. The heat conduction from the foil makes the hair really bright at the root, which leads to an unnatural finish as the hair grows out. Balayage doesn't require heat conduction, so the growth doesn't leave a harsh line of demarcation.

    Expert Answer
The best way to repair bleach-damaged hair is to use a really great restorative treatment once or twice a week. You can also use a protein treatment, but avoid doing it too often, as it can harden your hair and make it brittle.
  • Question
What if I have black hair? Will it work?
    Community Answer
You might have to bleach a few times to get platinum blonde balayage, or you can keep it the lightish brown that it comes out to be, try it and see how it turns out.
  • Question
Do I need to bleach first before I dye when attempting balayage?
    Community Answer
First bleach, then dye. (P.S. Try a mixture of honey, chamomile tea, argan oil and lemon juice to strengthen your hair and enhance the color before you bleach).
  • Question
I have naturally curly hair, and I don't want to damage it with bleach. Can I just use the box dyes to create the ombre effect? I was gonna use the Dark and Lovely brand.

It would be best to just to stick with your natural hair colors, because even the box dyes would damage it.
  • Question
If I have a side parting, then do I start from there?
    Lilo Pants
    Community Answer
It is best to re-part and do one bun at the top, and two in the middle with some hair out. That way you can get the most coverage in your hair.
