  • Question
I wan to cosplay as Link from LOZ, but I'm afraid I don't have the right skin color (I'm Hispanic). Is there any way to make it lighter, or should I stay the way I am?
    Community Answer
Skin color isn't that important when it comes to cosplay. As long as you get the costume and props right, and maybe the hat/hairstyle, everyone will know who you are.

As the leader, you should be confident, malicious, cold-hearted, and ruthless. Show a dominant personality and maintain a villainous expression.

    Community Answer

  • Question
Can I cosplay a character without glasses if I have them? I don't like contacts.
    GamingWithTemmie

  • Question
Can I cosplay as a character younger than me?
    Community Answer
Of course! Younger or older, it doesn't matter when it comes to cosplay.
  • Question
How do I cosplay as a character that's older than me?
    Community Answer
If the person is genuinely old, you can apply makeup to age yourself. There are plenty of tutorials explaining how to do this online. If the person is just a few years older than you, however, just do your best to act mature and project confidence.
  • Question
There's one character I'm set on going as, but I'm worried her outfit is impractical for me where I'll wear it (full body, tights, and long sleeves in hot weather). Any tips?
    Community Answer
You can always do a twist on the costume to make it more hot-weather friendly, like skipping the tights or long sleeves. Get creative and try some different things.
  • Question
What if I need a quick cosplay, but I don't like any fandoms?
    Community Answer
Pick your favorite show and choose a character whose clothing and hair you already have.
  • Question
I want to cosplay as two characters but I usually only go to one day of a con. What should I do?
    Community Answer
If cost and logistics aren't problems, you could wear one costume for the first half of the day, and the other for the second half.
  • Question
What if I don't like any of the characters I know about?
    Community Answer
Just keep doing research. I'm sure that you'll find one that you like enough to temporarily embody in no time. Just don't forget that cosplay is supposed to be fun, so don't go looking for a character just because it "suits you," find one that you love enough to spend the money one, not just because you fit the part.
  • Question
I watch lot of Yaoi, but I'm a girl and there's usually not a lot of girls in Yaoi. I want to cosplay as a girl. What can I do?
    Community Answer
You can always try out other anime and see if you like it. Or, you don't have to choose an anime character at all. You can cosplay as anything.
  • Question
What do I do if I'm too plump to accurately cosplay as a character?
    Community Answer
Don't worry about your body build, cosplay is meant to be fun! If you like a character and want to cosplay them go ahead and do so, as long as you're enjoying yourself nothing else matters.
  • Question
I want to develop cosplay as a hobby. I have the materials; however, I don't have any great wigs and I don't want to use my real hair. How can I find a great wig store?
    Community Answer
There are a lot of good wig stores online! You can also find some pretty great wigs on Amazon and eBay, but be sure to check the reviews if you get wigs from anywhere besides actual wig stores.
  • Question
If I'm a female, can I cosplay as male characters?
    Community Answer
Of course! If you have short hair, it would probably be easier, but if not, wigs are always an option. If you think that you can't pull it of by looking masculine, there are plenty of people who gender-bend the characters they want to cosplay as.
  • Question
Can I cosplay as the opposite gender when cosplaying?
    Community Answer
Yes, you can! Some people even cosplay the gender-bent version of a character, for example a girl version of Percy Jackson.
  • Question
Should I go with a character that looks the most like me?
    Community Answer
If your looks lend themselves well to a character you like, then that seems like a great choice. However, don't let that limit you; with makeup, a wig, inspired costume and sufficient imagination, you could pull off your own version of any character you'd like. It's quite common for those of a different race and/or gender from the character providing their own interpretations. Cosplay is just as much (if not more) about getting into the spirit of the character as it is the appearance; as such, you should give a character with whom you identify strongly just as much consideration as one you resemble.
  • Question
How do I cosplay a teen when I'm younger than a teen?
    Community Answer
As long as your attitude, costume, wig, etc. match the original character, the age difference between you and the character doesn't matter one bit!
