Does using talc on my hand damage the table or the cloth?

Yes, it can build up and slow ball speed down and cause balls to move offline. It looks just awful on any table. I have never used it and when I see a player using it and covering their entire hands I'll ask them why they use so much of it when it only needs to be on the point of contact for the cue to slide. I use paper towels in a plastic baggy with 96% alcohol to wipe and clean my cue, it works like a charm.
