You can use toner on dark hair, but it may not be strong enough to cover brassiness. Toner is very translucent and designed to work on light hair.

Red is the complementary color to green, but you don't want to apply bright red to green hair. Instead, use a warm copper brown to counteract green tones.

  • Question
How can I get rid of brassiness from dyed red hair?
    Community Answer
if it's brassiness from bleaching it, you probably need to use a toner. This will only work if your hair color is as light as the inside of a banana. If it's too dark, you'll probably need to lighten it again. Maybe try Color Oops or a Wella toner product. Even purple shampoo may help. Amazon has a lot of products that will explain in depth how they will work with your specific situation.
  • Question

  • Question
My hairdresser bleached my hair, and left it as it is. I bought purple shampoo and used it once. But now my roots are almost white and other half is more yellowish, not too brassy. What should I do?
    Community Answer
Return to your hairdresser and explain what you did and show the hair coloring as it currently is. Ask them to fix it at no cost to you, since the dyes they used should not have turned out like this.
  • Question
My hairdresser did LL and HL. My roots and crown are copper-looking. She tried to fix it, but it didn’t work. How can I get rid of the shiny brassy hair now?
    Community Answer
If your hairdresser made a mistake, it is her responsibility to fix it with professional knowledge and skills. Do not try and fix your hair at home, but make sure you go back to the hairdresser and request her help. You can try to help the process with purple shampoo; however, the brighter parts of your hair may turn purple in the process.

  • Question
I have thin, dry, flyaway, brassy and wavy hair. What should I use to make my hair look good?
    Community Answer
Reducing brassiness is the easiest, try a special shampoo and/or conditioner for blonde, bleached or gray hair with blue pigments. Wavy hair, if cared for properly, looks good on its own, you can even enhance it with styling products meant to make your curls bouncy. Thin, flyaway hair is a bit more problematic because taming hair care products can be too much for thin hair and products created for thin hair can worsen flyaways, so try a not too heavy shampoo for frizzy hair and drying your hair with an ionic blowdryer afterwards. Dry hair benefits from oil rich shampoos and conditioners, just make sure to thoroughly rinse them out or try hair masks and pre-shampoo treatments.
  • Question
My human hair wig just arrived, and it’s a fake-looking copper color! Can I permanently dye it light/medium brown?
    Community Answer
Yes. Just make sure you take proper care of it after dying it to stop it from becoming brassy.
  • Question
My hairdresser put rose-gold highlights in my hair, and now it is copper. Any suggestions?
    Community Answer
You can try using purple shampoo to try to get rid of the orange undertones. If this does not work, you should go back to your hairdresser and ask them to help you. Usually after dye, your hair needs lots of after-care to ensure that your dye doesn't change to a weird color. Dye eventually reacts with oxygen to change the color of your hair and will especially happen if you had to bleach your hair from a dark color.
