Two very useful methods use regular bleach. One recipe calls for 1/4 tsp of bleach per quart of water in the flower vase. The other calls for 3 drops of bleach and 1 tsp of sugar per quart of water. This will stop bacteria from growing in the water and make the flowers last longer.

    Expert Answer
If you're transporting a vase arrangement, place it in a shallow box, crate, or basket, and pad it with craft paper, newspaper, or bubble wrap. Also, you may want to fasten a seat belt around the vase to make sure the arrangement can't slide around while you're driving. If you have a long, wide arrangement, just put it in the trunk with a box under it so it won't slide.

  • Question
I'm driving 6 hours. How do I keep them from fully opening? Last time I did my cousin's wedding and drove 6 hours, the flowers all opened.
    T. Chinsen
    Top Answerer
A thin light layer of [widest 72"/180 cm] tulle may solve the problem. It needs to be secured around the petals so they do not move. If the flowers are in individual containers, then each one needs to be wrapped. Tulle is the lightest material that will not weigh down on the flowers and cause damage. Do a test run to figure out how to best wrap the flowers.
  • Question
How far a distance and how many hours can the flowers survive from the florist?
    T. Chinsen
    Top Answerer
Flowers vary in how long they will survive. Most will be susceptible to temperature and humidity once they are cut. Follow recommendations of the florist, as they have the best experience and knowledge.
