Spoilers ahead! The Greater Dog is a miniboss that you will encounter in Snowdin Forrest during the game of Undertale. First disguised as a snow poff, he pops out at you when you least expect it. If you're doing a genocide route, this shouldn't be a problem. But, if you're a pacifist, start at step one to learn all you need to get past the Greater Dog without harming anyone in the process.

Method 1
Method 1 of 2:

Using the Act Command

  1. 1
Encounter the Greater Dog. This will happen automatically as you approach the last snow poff, which really isn't a snow poff at all.
  2. 2
Choose "Act" as your first move. In order to spare the greater Dog, you must choose the Act button out of Fight, Act, Item, and Mercy. After choosing Act by selecting it with Z on your keyboard, choose the Greater Dog's name. You can either press enter or Z to do this. This will bring you to five more options: Check, Beckon, Play, Pet, and Ignore. Use your arrow-keys to choose Beckon, and then click enter (or Z).

  3. 3
Dodge the Greater Dog's attack. Now that you made your move, it's time for Greater Dog to make his. He will send a spear moving across the board that will keep switching between a regular attack and a blue attack.
    • When the spear is in a regular attack you must move your soul away from the attack. When the attack turns blue, hold still and let it pass over you. If you successfully stay still during the blue part, you will not be hurt.
  4. 4
Choose the "Pet" option. Follow the same instructions on finding Act and selecting the Greater Dog's name as last time. Once you have done that, simply select Pet instead of Beckon by moving your arrow-keys and then pressing Z (or enter).
  5. 5
Stay completely still as the Greater Dog attacks you. When his attack opens, it will show an entity that looks almost like the Annoying Dog, only sleeping. Stay completely still at the beginning of this attack. If you do, the dog will stay asleep and bring you no harm through the entire attack. However, If you move at the beginning or touch the sleeping dog at any time, he will launch the word BARK at you and you must dodge it.
  6. 6
Wait for the dog to wake up and play. Play with the dog on your turn by choosing Act, Greater Dog, and then finally, Play.
  7. 7
  8. 8
Read the message that pops up after this attack. It will say, " Greater Dog wants some TLC." Give it this tender loving care by choosing the Pet option in the Act menu. After you pet the dog, he will have another turn, in which he inflicts his almost meaningless attack where all you do is stay still. Yet even then you will get a message saying, "Pet capacity is 40 percent."
  9. 9
Choose Pet again. This is your last necessary turn in order to spare the Greater Dog. You will read a narration from Chara saying that, "You pet decisively." This is a good thing.
  10. 10
Escape the last attack. If you move when the attack is normal and freeze when it is blue, you will easily escape any danger.
  11. 11
Choose spare from the Mercy option. Continue your journey in the Underground.
