Easily sync your Viber account to PC, Mac, or a new phone
This wikiHow will teach you how to sync messages in Viber from your phone to your computer, plus how to sync Viber from one phone to another. The Viber app is free and compatible with both Windows and Mac computers. Unfortunately, there is no way to sync Viber messages from your computer to your phone, and it's not possible to maintain synced versions of the Viber app on multiple phones.
Quick Steps
- Install the Viber app on your computer and open it.
- In Viber on your phone, tap ☰ and select the QR code icon.
- Use the mobile app to scan the QR code in the desktop app.
- Approve all requests and tap Sync .
Steps
-
Download and install Viber for Desktop. You can download the latest version from https://www.viber.com/en/download . If you have the app already installed, skip this step.
- Once downloaded, double-click the installer and follow the on-screen installation instructions.
- To use Viber on your PC or Mac, you'll need a working Viber account on your phone.
-
Open the Viber app on your computer. It'll either open automatically after it finishes installing, or you can find it in the "Recently added" section of your Start menu or the Applications folder in Finder. Once open, you'll see a QR code you can scan with your Android or iPhone.Advertisement
-
Open the Viber app on your phone. This app icon looks like a telephone receiver on a purple background.
-
Open the QR code scanner in the Viber app. Using your phone, tap the menu ☰, then tap the QR code icon-it looks like four boxes made of dots and lines. This should open your phone's camera.
- If the camera screen doesn't appear, tap QR Scanner (Android) or Scan QR Code (iPhone) to open it manually. [1] X Research source
-
Scan the QR code in the Viber desktop app. Once scanned, you'll see a message on your phone asking you to approve the activation process.
-
Approve the activation request(s). Tap Accept or Yes in the Viber mobile app to confirm when prompted.
-
Tap Sync on your phone. Viber will now sync messages, contacts, and other data from your phone to your PC or Mac.
- Keep Viber open on your phone until the sync is complete. You can only sync your messages once (when you first install the desktop app); if the sync is interrupted, you won't be able to sync them again.
- If you don't see the option to sync or can't scan your QR code, your firewall may be blocking Viber. Viber requires ports 80, 443, 4244, 5242, 5243, and 7985 to be open for both TCP and UDP connections. Back up Viber on your original phone. First, if you're switching platforms (from Android to iPhone or vice-versa), you won't be able to transfer your messages from your old phone to your new one. The process will only work if your new phone is on the same platform (iOS or Android) as your old phone. To back up Viber to the cloud:
- Open the Viber app on your phone and tap More … .
- Tap Settings and select Account .
- Tap Viber Backup .
- Tap Auto backup and select how often to back up your Viber data.
- Choose whether you want to sync photos.
- Tap Back Up Now to start the backup. [3] X Research source

Install the Rakuten Viber app on your new phone. Download Viber from the App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Android) on your new phone.
- If you haven't already moved your phone number to your new phone, you'll want to do that before restoring Viber.
-
Register Viber on the new phone to your original phone number. Open the Viber app—you'll be prompted to activate Viber by entering a phone number. Enter the same phone number that was connected to your original Viber account on your other phone to activate.
-
Select the option to Restore Viber content . This option will appear once Viber is activated.
- If you have a lot of data in Viber that needs to be synced to the new phone, the process can take a while. And because the download can be quite large, make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi if you pay for mobile data.
-
Restore purchased stickers and your Viber Out subscription. After your Viber data is synced to your new phone, you can also sync any stickers you bought and your subscription to Viber Out. Here's how:
- Open Viber and tap More … .
- Tap Settings and select Account .
- Tap Purchases .
- Tap Restore subscriptions if you want to sync your Viber Out subscription and any credits you had.
- Tap Restore sticker packs if any stickers are available.
- If you're using an iPhone, tap Restore to complete the process.
-
Manually sync Viber data. If you weren't able to restore your Viber data when activating, either because your phone number was not yet assigned to your new phone or because you weren’t on Wi-Fi, you can do so at any time. Just follow these steps:
- Open Viber and tap More … .
- Tap Settings and select Account .
- Tap Viber Backup .
- Tap Restore and then Restore Now to confirm.

Tips
- You cannot have the same data synced in Viber on multiple phones. If you get a new phone, you'll need to transfer your chat history to the new phone, which removes it from your old one. Thanks
