More About Warrior Cats Names

Part of the fun in coming up with a great Warrior Cats name is making sure it fits with the series’ lore (while still being original for your character, of course). So, here’s a refresher on Warrior Cats naming conventions and suggestions to help you put a name together that you really love!

How does naming work in the world of Warriors ?
As any diehard Warrior Cats fan knows, there are naming conventions to consider when coming up with a cat name. In the series, each cat has a specific name that indicates their Clan status (as an apprentice, warrior, kit, and so on). The name changes at each stage of a Clan cat’s life, with their first name—as a kit—given by the cat’s parents.

Generally speaking, every Warrior Cats name has a prefix and suffix. The first part of a cat name is usually nature-inspired in some way. However, the second part of the name is what gives away their clan position. Kits always have a name ending in -kit; apprentices have a name ending in -paw; and finally, as warrior or medicine cats, they take on a new suffix given by their leader or mentor (which is usually nature-inspired, too, and is added to that first name given by their parents when they were born).

When it comes to giving your Warrior Cats character a name, aim for one that speaks to their personality (as well as their clan standing and ties to nature). And, consider which clan the cat in question is from—the RiverClan? The SkyClan? Their clan affiliations will likely affect their name, too. For example, a SkyClan cat could have a name that’s related to the sky, weather, or celestial bodies in some way, like “Stormflight” and “Skylark.” (Of course, if your cat is a kit or apprentice, those names would be modified to “Stormkit” or “Skypaw.”)
