Things You Should Know
- You can purchase a house in most of the large cities in Skyrim, but you generally need to complete a quest first to gain Jarl's permission.
- Resting in a house you have bought grants you a Well Rested stat bonus. Sleeping in a house where a spouse lives gives you the Lover's Comfort stat bonus.
- When you purchase a house, you also get a housecarl, which is an NPC that can assist you as a companion.
Steps

Complete the "Bleak Falls Barrow" quest. Completing Bleak Falls Barrow is a requirement to purchasing Breezehome in Whiterun . This is likely the first house that will be available to you early in the game.
- To start the Bleak Falls Barrow quest, talk to Farengar Secret-Fire, who is the Jarl's wizard. He is in the Dragon's Reach castle in Whiterun.

Talk to the Jarl in Whiterun. After completing the Bleak Falls Barrow quest, talk to the Jarl in Whiterun. He will inform you that a home is available and to talk to Proventus Avenicci.Advertisement

Raise 5000 Gold. You'll need to raise a considerable amount of gold to purchase any house in Skyrim. The cost of Breezehome is 5000 gold pieces.
