There are various plants that you can grow in Minecraft for use as food, brewing, decoration and dyes. This wikiHow teaches you how to plant various plants and crops in Minecraft.
Steps

Obtain carrots or potatoes. Carrots and potatoes can be found in village gardens. When the carrots and potatoes are fully grown, click on them or press the right trigger button on the controller to break them with your hand or a sword. Each block with carrots produces multiple carrots. Walk over them to collect them. [1] X Research source
- You can also find carrots by killing zombies or in shipwreck supply chests, and pillager outpost chests.
- Don't eat them! You won't be able to grow what your character has consumed already.

Craft a hoe. You can craft a hoe using a crafting table . Have to sticks and two blocks or bars of the material of your choice, and select them, or place them in the crafting grid in the following positions:
- Place a stick in the middle space, and the bottom middle space. Sticks can be crafted from wood plank blocks, which can be crafted from wood.
- Place a wood plank block, stone block, iron bar, or diamond in the upper-middle space, and the upper-left space.
- Click and drag the hoe to your inventory.

Till the soil. Equip the hoe and use it on dirt or grass to till the soil.
- To equip the hoe, open your inventory and place it in your toolbar. Press the number that corresponds to the toolbar space on your keyboard, or press the right and left shoulder buttons on the controller to highlight the different toolbar spaces. Place the reticle on a grass or dirt block and right-click, or press the left trigger button on the controller to till the soil.

Plant the carrots in the tilled soil. To plant the carrots, place them in your toolbar and highlight them to equip them. Then place the reticle on a tilled soil block and right-click or press the left trigger button to plant the carrots. Each carrot you plant will produce multiple carrots.

Wait. Carrots are ready to be harvested when you can see the orange portion poking out of the ground. The potatoes are ready to be harvested when you can see their distinct brown color.
- Make sure that you've placed the farmland near a water source, as this will make the plants grow faster.

Obtain melons or pumpkin seeds. Melons can be found in jungles biomes, and savanna villages. Wait. The melons or pumpkins are ready to be harvested when there is a melon or pumpkin block next to the plant.

Break tall grass. You can break tall grass using your hand, or a sword. Some tall grass will produce seeds when broken. To break the grass, click on it, or press the right trigger button on the controller.

Collect the seeds. When you see seeds drop, collect them by walking over them. This will automatically add them to your inventory.

Plant saplings. Saplings can be obtained by breaking leaves of trees. Plant them in dirt or grass blocks.

Plant sugar cane. Sugar cane can be found in the wild, next to rivers. They can be planted next to water.

Plant cocoa pods. Cocoa pods can be found on jungle trees. They can be planted on jungle wood.

Plant vines: Vines can be found on jungle trees. They can be planted anywhere. Harvest with shears.

Plant cactus. Cactus can be found in deserts. They can be planted in sand blocks. Harvest with caution––ouch!

6Plant Mushrooms: Mushrooms can be found in swamps, giant taga trees, and in dark places, such as caves. They can be planted in dark areas below light level 13. If planted on mycelium or podzol blocks, they can grow at any light level.

Plant nether wart. Nether ward can be Found in nether fortresses. They can be planted on soul sand.

Plant flowers. Flowers can be found in the wild on grass blocks. They can be planted on grass; you can really only transfer a flower from one place to another.
- You can obtain bonemeal and right-click on the ground and you might get a flower if you're lucky.
