Try using a Bug-type Pokémon like Vivillon that can use Sleep Powder and knows not-too-damaging moves that can defeat Mewtwo easily. Dusk Balls work well since Mewtwo is found in a cave, though you can also use Dream Balls if you put the Mewtwo to sleep.

It depends on the Status Condition. You should obtain the TM for False Swipe and teach it to a high-level Pokemon. If you find your False Swipe Pokemon has an ability that can damage the opponent (e.g. Flame Body, Effect Spore, etc.), then don't use said Pokemon.
