Plus, how to disconnect Teams from Outlook events permanently
PDF download Download Article

When you create a meeting in your Outlook calendar, a Teams link may be added automatically. This can be annoying if you plan to host the meeting in person or via Zoom. While you can't delete a Teams meeting from an existing invite, you can edit the invite to make Teams less obvious, or delete and recreate the invite without a Teams meeting attached. Read on to learn every way to remove Teams meeting from an Outlook invite.

Removing a Teams Meeting from an Outlook Calendar Invite

You can't delete a Teams meeting from an Outlook invitation you've already sent. If you don't want to host a meeting on Teams, switch off the "Teams meeting" toggle when creating the event, or turn off "Add online meeting to all meetings" in your Outlook calendar options.

  1. Unfortunately, you can't delete a Teams meeting from an existing Outlook event. [1] To get rid of the "Join Teams meeting" or "Join online meeting" button in the invite on peoples' calendars, cancel the meeting, then recreate it without a Teams meeting attached.
    • If you've already sent the invite, you have a few options:
      • Cancel the meeting, then recreate it without a Teams meeting attached. See Removing Teams Before Sending Invites to learn how.
      • Edit the meeting to remove or replace the "Microsoft Teams meeting" text. This will not remove the "Join Teams meeting" or "Join online meeting" button people will see in Outlook, but it will delete the large text in the body that says "Microsoft Teams meeting" and call-in details.

  1. Even though you can't get rid of the "Join Teams meeting" button from the invitation, you can delete the "Microsoft Teams meeting" header and join link from the invitation itself.
    • People may still try to join the meeting on Teams if they're using Outlook, as you can't get rid of the "Join" button.
  2. This opens the invitation for editing.
  3. Remember—even though you're removing the meeting link and associated text, attendees using Outlook will still see a "Join Teams meeting" button on the invitation. Because of this, you may want to replace the text with something that makes it clear there will not be an online version of the meeting—e.g., "There is no online meeting" or "The meeting will be taking place on Zoom , not Teams."
  4. This saves your changes.
