I couldn’t resist dropping in from vacation to wish you all a happy New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. As 2018 turns into 2019, and wikiHow’s birthday approaches, I’m feeling full of wikiLove and appreciation for you all. Thanks for another year with the best community on the web <3

How about a little fun as we enter the new year… reflections, resolutions, and goals, anyone? If you’re game to share, let us know:

  1. What was your proudest accomplishment on the wiki this year?

  2. What is your wikiGoal for the new year?

  3. Any personal/offline resolutions or goals you want to share?

For me…

  1. I was pretty proud of getting the ball rolling on this topic earlier this year. Writing an article, particularly about something non-tech, is pretty out of my comfort zone, and it took a lot of time and research (and could still benefit from input from someone more expert), but I’m glad if it might help just one new mom out there.
  2. When I crack open the computer again in the new year, I’d like to help the effort to remove and fix the broken links from the recent NFD backlog. Then I’d like to work on finding all you topic experts out there who might be interested in being listed as expert co-authors on the articles you’ve worked on and getting your blurbs up for readers!
  3. I need to start reading books again! I read articles and parenting blogs and so on, but I’m way out of the habit of reading long-form fiction. It’s a hobby I’d like to model more for my daughter (vs my usual habit of being glued to the phone instead), so I want to get back into the habit.

Whether you’ve got reflections and resolutions to share or not, here’s to a fab start to your 2019. Happy new year!

Happy New Year!!!

To answer the questions,

  1. I got into wikiHow, although I registered for my account in 2017, I really didn’t start doing a lot on wikiHow until 2018.

  2. Next year, I would like to write more articles and turn more stubs into articles, but most of the articles that I would write/improve would be in a tech topic.

  3. I would like to take some of my own advise. On many of the articles that I edit, I give advise that I think is good and that I agree with, but I sometimes neglect to follow it because I’m to lazy. I should probably start to follow some of my own advise to make things easier for myself in the long run.

  1. This year, I have written over 100+ articles, of which a portion of them were promoted, one was picked as a RS, and another featured.

  2. Next year, I want to continue writing articles, as well as maybe get featured author status.

  3. I do not know.  Maybe we can celebrate achievements as the new year rings in.

Who do you want to compliment for what in the past year?

Me:  I would like to compliment @Anna for starting this post and taking her time to watch this community.  She has been such a great help with mentoring editors around the world, including me.  Occasionally, we crack up funny conversations with each other, and occasionally she has to remind me not to repeat my (once problem) behavior, but wikiHow would not be anywhere without her help.  I already awarded her a 150000+ edit barnstar, but why not celebrate her (and other excellent editors) again?

^ 100+

  1. I haven’t done much this year (=/), but I suppose I could mention the barnstar I received not long ago:

| I award this barnstar to TheYoungWriter, because of her friendly attitude and kind vibe that she gives to everyone, whenever. I am always seeing her giving helpful and encouraging advice to new wikihowians. She also appreciates everyone for who they are, and what they do. Somehow she never gets angry and makes everything she does and says kind and encouraging. She deserves this barnstar so very much and its the least we can do to thank her for everything she has done |

It was so so kind of @Anon to give it to me. I don’t feel like I fully deserve it, but that can just become one of my goals, I suppose

  1. I hope to be able to contribute some worthwhile articles to wikiHow. I’ve made some tries in the seven months I’ve been on, but they were all failures.

  2. I’d like to finally get my book Liberterria published! Its work has been greatly slowed due to schoolwork and (tada) life , but I think I can get it published this year if I work hard.

  1. I’m fairly new, so I haven’t really contributed too much as of yet. I guess my best accomplishment has been either reaching 3,000 edits patrolled or becoming a welcomer.

  2. Next year, I hope to accomplish quite a bit! I want to continue patrolling edits, but I also want to begin really writing/contributing to articles. I also want to continue welcoming new editors and grow as a helpful community member:slight_smile:

  3. Outside of the wiki, I want to work more on my schooling. I hope to get my SAT scores up, and (fingers crossed) get accepted to my goal college! I also want to work more on my writing and art, as I’ve been pushing those off to the side for far too long:stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s to a great 2019!

  1. I’d say my proudest accomplishment was finding my two wiki-niches: the school and travel categories. 2. Next year, I know this is ambitious, but I’d like to hit 50 high-quality articles written, or maybe more. 3. I’d like to finish off high school on a high note, and start college off right!

Happy New Year Everyone!

  1. Getting a hang of patrolling recent changes.  I was intimidated by it for a long time, but now it’s one of my favourite tasks,

  2. I would like to write an article (not sure of the topic yet).

  3. Take regular days off.

  1. I feel like I have been doing booster things forever, and honestly can’t remember if I became a booster this year or not, but if I did, I am proud of past me for that. (I’m pretty sure it was in 2018…) If I got the date wrong, then my next proudest thing would be to help out on some video game categories that need some love and having some of my articles get FA tagged.

  2. wikiGoal is to write more articles because I haven’t done that in a while, but that might have to be pushed to 2020 :P. Also, to put in more votes for NFD Guardian and expand some video game articles that I know how to do but have never gotten around to it. I could also help test some tech/video game articles.

  3. I would like to excel at my academics because 2019 is a crucial year for me, and a busy one at that. Another one would be to relax a little more, write a book, and spread some positivity.

Here’s to another great wikiYear :D

Thanks Anna for this discussion. It’s a joy to read about everyone. I missed something like this on Christmas. Your article looks really detailed. Kudos to you on making it and for the desire to help others. 1. My proudest accomplishment are not accomplishments of my own alone. It’s a collective effort. I felt proud when vandalising anons turned away from it. And when other editors stepped up to guide/ calm down an argument, for fellow editors. 2. My wikiGoal is to see all the editors respect and guide each other and build a positive attitude for all. And to contribute and see wikiHow in no. 1 position, for it to be read even more and trusted throughout the world.:heart:Happy New Year friends. Be together and work in the right direction, happily. Have fun.

Happy New Year to wikiHowians everywhere.

  1. My proudest accomplishment was doing a presentation at a library conference based on a wikiHow article I had written. As a result, I have the opportunity to do more presentations in the coming year.

  2. My wikiGoal is to write more articles and use my expertise to improve articles needing revision.

  3. My offline goal is to return the love and compassion so many of my friends have shown me this past year when I really needed it.

Happy new year, everyone! 1. I’ve been on wikiHow for more than a year now! 2. My wikiGoal is to try more kinds of editing or write more articles.

  1. I had the honor of being accepted into the rank of admin early this year. I also got my first barnstar, broke 10K edits, and I will be rounding 4 years on my wikibday of Feb.

  2. I’d like to start getting a bit more active. In recent weeks I’ve just been popping on to check the ANB and RCP but I wanna start getting into some of the projects going on and make some (more) bold edits. Maybe even make some new articles.

  3. Personally, much like Anna said I need to start getting back into reading. It’s been a while, I think I read something like 2 books in all of 2018 (not counting things read online or ebooks). I used to read a whole lot. 1 every other day. I’d also like to start getting healthier-

As always, it’s amazing to be here on the wiki and I wish all of you a happy and healthy 2019!

Happy New Year to everyone!

I’d hate to brag, but it seems like this is a good place to do so. It’s actually encouraging me to do so. But I don’t mind.

While I can’t stop coming here, I think in 2019, I’m cutting down - driving a little bit more for Uber, shopping for Instacart and Shipt (although in December, I was thinking of dropping Shipt altogether) and even delivering using the GrubHub for Drivers apps. (I also drive (when possible) for UberEats, but that’s all attached to Uber’s app.) I can’t stand Lyft’s policies and the way they treat me - although we (99% of us) in my area drive for both.

As for the site: I need to slow down with articles I create. Focus more on adding screenshots and step-by-step images (I found the tweak to produce unrotated images and it’s all in the original orientation on a Windows computer with an iPhone). But single this task out as being th eonly one, because I will still create more articles from time-to-time this year…let’s see how long THAT lasts!

I have to lose weight. The last time I weighed myself in 2017, I was 270 lbs and beginning to slim, but then the 2017 holiday season struck and I was back up to 280. I tried slimming in 2018 again (in prep for the wikiHow meetup) and came back to 270 (still short of not needing a seatbelt extender on the airplane). When I signed up for Instacart (and then immediately said “bah humbug”) (late May) then later saw Shipt (it’s competitor) and tried a Shopping trip, I thought “Hey, that’s pretty cool.” I asked Instacart to re-instate my account - late July. From my brother and his GrubHub in an area I don’t visit often, I signed up and drive for GrubHub, but still weigh 270. All this walking - isn’t paying off. My relatives (who live in-house) force me to eat too often and it’s just hard. I try getting out to work, but in November and December, that was hard (had broken the struts to my Uber car’s front and it was paying off when I was loosing coolant big-time). But then again, that’s why I don’t watch my weight on a scale. I’m sorry I’m overweight.

Happy New Year!!!
