As part of yesterday’s online wikiHow meetup ( #youshouldgo
!), we each talked about some things we want to work on during the coming week. My goal is to get that NFD queue down below 100 articles. Others are doing a lot to help as well, as it’s a big job. Thanks to those who are dropping in to vote on some articles now and then. Having a goal is working great for me. I have an appointment in a few minutes, and have just a little time for wikiHow right now, so I decided to devote all those minutes to my weekly goal, and I got a nice little chunk done. I even have my homepage set to http://www.wikihow.com/Special:NFDGuardian
to make it easier to jump right in. What’s your goal for the week?
My goal for the week is to give a boost with the Spell Checker!

My goal from the online meetup was to be caught up with the Notified Copyright Problems page ( http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Category:Notified-Copyright-Problems&viewMode=text
). Because I work four dinner shifts of the week, I still get energy when I get home, so I try to do a little chunk here and there. As of this post, I’m currently 6 days behind the week mark (189 total in the list), so I think it’s a good goal to have until next Monday.
Is boosting 5,000 articles a realistic goal? If not then I want to do some more welcoming. The queue’s getting a bit backed up and I’ve been meaning to do it, but I haven’t.

My goal is to write at least one new article from my list of article ideas
If I get that done before Monday, I’d like to help chip in with other people’s goals!

I set a goal for this week to welcome at least 5 new contributors via the Welcome Wagon tool, something that I’ve always thought is important but can get overlooked. Planning to tackle that when I have the appropriate time to devote
Great goals, and as Krystle pointed out in the hangout yesterday, it’s fantastic to see such a wide range of goals chosen. At wikiHow, different people are interested in different things. Good news, by the way, on the NFD front. The goal of getting down below 100, has been reached! We currently stand at only 96 articles in the NFD Guardian. This is in small part due to my efforts, and in major part due to about six or seven other people, who have done an incredible number of NFD Guardian edits in the past 7 days. You guys rock! Now that I have learned that tool pretty much inside out, I will continue to tackle a handful of NFD’s each day.

For anyone with a boosting goal, I started this thread with a list of promising articles, for more fun boosting opportunities

I wrote up a weekly article, http://www.wikihow.com/Be-an-Efficient-Restaurant-Dishwasher
shortly after the meetup call, plus accomplished my goal of catching up on checking copyrights Thursday morning.
Shortly after the meetup I had almost finished a goal of mine, though there’s still a lot more ways to go. But then I switched the other 2 of the goals I stated into one other rather meaningful other goal: finish what’s in Method Editor! When I started this last week, there were 48 in there. It is now down to 10 and counting, almost all thanks to me.
YOU GUYS ROCK! @Maluniu
I had seen your article, and what a fantastic topic that is. So much good detail in there. @Byankno1
that is a lot of progress on Method Editor! I have not even really tried that function yet, but I know that when I opened it, it did not look all that easy. And @Krystle
that’s also a great topic, too. I have learned a lot by reading the new articles motivated by the weekly personal goals.
Method Editor isn’t as bad as it looks. With the addition of a few extra steps and some careful perusing to ensure no duplicate steps that already exist (if), the Publish button is no longer used - giving way to Quick Edit or Delete (or Skip if you are totally unsure). http://www.wikihow.com/Use-the-Method-Editor-App-on-wikiHow
kind of shows what this app is like. We all have our opinions on things, and that’s just my #twocents

I was able to send personalized welcome messages to 5 new contributors - thus accomplishing my goal within the week as well

I want to clean up a whole category. There were no articles under New Zealand that needed improvements when I last looked…hope I’m not speaking too soon…no, I’m going to check all the articles in the category and see if I can make any of them even better. That is my goal, a really shiny, polished clean category.
Way to go, @Jordan
! Welcoming is such a key component of making this place work. And to @HumanBeing
, my deepest respect. Shepherding an entire category is a very comprehensive way to increase and guard quality here at wikiHow. Fantastic idea! Will you also be adding some of those pages to your watchlist?
