Welcome to the latest wikiHaus Lab update! Here’s what’s happening for Dec 1st:
What’s happening? We have a brand new course on How to Fight Disinformation Online, created in conjunction with the UN Verified Initiative. This course is in addition to the misinformation course we launched last year. We’re excited to have worked on another great collaboration to provide important information that is free for everyone to access. You can choose to either have a lesson emailed each day over 5 days or download a full PDF of the course directly from the page. Feel free to check it out here
.
What’s happening? The content team is trying out different formatting for the “Things You Should Know” section. They’re currently testing unbolding the text and adding a green bar to the left to make it stand out more like a part or method, like you can see here:
What’s happening? The team is going to be experimenting with creating a feed of video shorts which will likely be tested on category pages. This may take some time to get going, so let us know if you see any!
You may have noticed:The new Improve Your English game
is now live (as mentioned in the wikiHow Herald
.) Although it’s only been live for a short while, we are seeing great engagement with this game.
Update:Speaking of games, the Train Your Brain game has been updated to include coloring actions, where it validates each letter as you type it in and shows you if you got it in the right spot.

Some of these seem to be going into the categorizer tool ( example
) - should these be tagged as staffinuse or otherwise prevented from being categorized?
Thank you for asking this! I messaged Jayne about this but received no response.

Thanks for the note @Zygomatt
- Justin is checking in about this so they will likely be out of the categorizer app within a couple of days.
@QuotingOnwikiHow
I don’t see any notes from you - please let me know how you messaged me because I’d hate to be missing messages!

Thank you so much! Messages with templates don’t seem to be sending notifications - sneaky.
Thats always been a design flaw in the system that I’ve hated.

Please add that same coloring action to the Improve Your English game.

Great feedback @Agusbou2015

Found the Improve Your English game by random. Couple thoughts:
- Have a bit more than three free pictures.
- Some issues with the wording (e.g. a starry night sky corresponded to “star” [singular] - might be confusing for those learning English).
Overall, I love the idea of the game.

Thanks for the feedback @Batreeq
- great points.
Is this a new feature or was this already here before December?
When writing an article, wikiHow predicts what you’re going to write.
This also happens in the forums:

I think this is likely to be from your browser @Iris8989
- and I’m intrigued as to which one you’re using?! I get these suggestions sometimes in Gmail but not when on other sites!

Oh I’m using Microsoft Edge- maybe that’s why the predictions show up
Predictions also happen with Gmail for me also, so that’s probably why.
Since in Microsoft Edge it looks like this:
In Firefox nothing shows up after the “probably”.

When will you post the next wikiHaus Lab update?

The next one will be at the end of January!
As a New Year resolution, I want the Horizontal Table of Contents to become the default format in all articles!
