Welcome to the latest wikiHaus Lab update! Here’s what’s happening for September 29th:
You may have noticed:Filters on trending homepage articles. This week the team started testing the ability to filter articles in the trending section on the homepage. At the moment, readers can choose to see 12 articles that are on trending topics, Relationships, Fall, or Health and Wellness just by clicking on the option. You can see these options in the screenshot here
.
What’s happening?Adding filters to category pages. Along with homepage articles, we’ve also been adding filters to some category pages, like Computers and Electronics - how to articles from wikiHow
. Right now it seems that they’re doing well and increasing engagement on the page, so we’ll likely see filters on more category pages moving forward.
What’s happening? We have a new length conversion widget that will be added to articles like How to Convert Inches to Feet soon!
Update:You can now play all archived levels of the Train Your Brain
word game instead of just the one level. We’re getting lots of positive feedback about the game which is great!

Thanks for the update, Jayne!
How are the trending topics (like from the Main Page) selected? Is it based on current readership trends, or are they manually selected by some other method?

Great question @Eric
! These articles are selected from a variety of sources. We examine what’s trending across the internet in general along with what’s trending specifically on our own site, including new articles that have been written in response to or anticipating upcoming trends, and of course we pick some articles because of relevant seasonal topics. Adding onto this, we also try to make sure we have a variety of categories that will be fun for readers with diverse interests!
