Many people have trouble with Five Nights at Freddy's, but this article will help you get past night one.
Steps
-
Wait. You will start out in your office, and the phone will ring. Listen to the Phone Guy (the former night guard) for information on how to play.
-
Check the monitor. On Night 1, the animatronics won't be very active, but you need to see if they form a pattern anyway. Foxy will very rarely move on Night 1 if you don't check the cameras at all, and Freddy will definitely not move. Your biggest threat is Bonnie.Advertisement
-
Be on the lookout. You'll want to keep an eye out for Bonnie and Chica, who begin to move at around 2-3am. Bonnie appears travels along left side of the map. Chica tends to stay to the right.
-
Watch them. Don't worry if they start to get close. If one appears outside a hallway, stay wary, but don't shut the door just yet.
-
Check the lights periodically. You will see if they are outside your office. If they are, shut the door and monitor the other side. Check every now and then to see if they leave. If they do, open the door.
-
Try to keep both doors open as much as possible. The doors drain your battery. Never shut both doors unless it's an emergency (i.e. animatronics outside both doors).

QuestionCan phone guy call me on Night 5?Community AnswerNo. Spoiler Alert: Phone guy is killed on Night 4. On Night 5, rather than the usual voicemail, you hear a strange series of garbling sounds.

QuestionWhat happens when the power goes out?Community AnswerWhen the power goes out, there is nothing you can do. Freddy will appear at your left door, and his eyes and mouth will flash as he plays a music box-style toreador march. At some time, the screen will completely black out and the music will stop. Then, at an unknown time during this blackout, Freddy will jumpscare you, resulting in a game over. Unless you are extremely close to 6 AM and it turns 6 AM before Freddy can jumpscare you, the power going out always results in death.

QuestionIf the same phone guy is in FNAF 2, then how did he die?JoshuaCommunity AnswerFNaF 2 came before FNaF 1 in the lore. Also, the FNaF 2 phone guy is different from the FNaF 1 phone guy.

Tips from our Readers
The advice in this section is based on the lived experiences of wikiHow readers like you. If you have a helpful tip you’d like to share on wikiHow, please submit it in the field below.
- For Nights 2 and beyond, keep your camera on 1C: Pirate Cove. For Bonnie And Chica, just use the door lights. For Freddy, pay attention to his laughs. His laughter announces his movement. His 5th laugh is in camera 4B. Close the right door until you hear him laugh again. After the 5th laugh, and you've closed the door, keep the right door closed until you hear his laugh again. That lets you know he is down the hall. You can open the door again. Listen for another laugh then close the right door. Then he'll laugh again after some time. Open the door unless Chica is there. This system will go on for the rest of the night. I know it isn't night 1, but it worked for me.
- Don't do anything until it's 2 AM, then just close both doors and wait until the night is over. Since 2 AM is when they start coming for the office. When you shut the doors at 2 you should have enough power to just sit the night out as long as you didn't use the monitor, doors, or door lights.
- Close the doors when Bonnie and Chica are there. If you fail to do so Bonnie or Chica will kill you and its game over.
