In 2020, Niantic created Remote Raid Passes so you could join Raid Battles in Pokemon Go from home. Without a Remote Raid Pass, you need to be at the physical location to join in the fun. Even though Remote Raid Passes in Pokemon Go are popular, Niantic makes getting them more difficult. Getting a Remote Raid Pass for Free

Rewarded by Research Breakthroughs. Earn a Research Breakthrough by completing 7 days of Field Research tasks, which you can find in the bottom right corner of your screen when you're looking at Pokemon Go on your smartphone.
- Remote Raid Passes aren't guaranteed as they are only a possible reward.
- If you have 3 or more Remote Raid Passes in your bag, you won't be able to get more.

Buying a Remote Raid Pass In-Game

Buy 1 for 195 PokeCoins or buy 3 for 525 PokeCoins. There used to be bundles available in the shop, but they have disappeared and have yet to appear again since May 2022.
- Although you can refill your supply of PokeCoins with real money, you can also earn them for free by leaving one of your Pokemon to defend a gym. Every hour they defend the gym earns you a set amount of PokeCoins. If your Pokemon stays in that gym for 8 hours and 30 minutes, you'll get 50 PokeCoins for free.
- If you have 3 or more Remote Raid Passes in your bag, you won't be able to get more.

Using a Remote Raid Pass

Tap the app icon that looks like a PokeBall.
It's below the binoculars icon in the lower bottom right corner of your screen.
You'll see it to the right of Pokemon .

Tap View for the raid you'd like to join. The gyms with ongoing raids are displayed on that tab with their status (like "Ongoing" if a Raid is in progress).
- You can also skip this step and simply tap on a nearby gym from the map view. You can also use an invitation from a friend who's at the raid. ^{[1]

Tap the pink Battle using a Remote Raid Pass button. Only 5 people can be in a lobby together who are raiding remotely, so if there are already 5 remote raiders there, you'll be added to a new lobby.
- Raid mechanics are the same for those who joined with a Remote Battle Pass and those who are physically at the Gym. However, attack power is decreased for Pokemon Trainers who join remotely versus the in-person Trainers. ^{[2]
