They can be rather finicky. Try standing in one spot in the middle of where you'd like the portal, then placing down the end portal frames around yourself.

He may have traded an Eye of Ender with you. Those are the things you put on the portal frame to make the portal open. Remember to put it so that it's on the inside looking out!

Stand in the center and build a row of three frames. Then, turn to your left or right, and build three more frames. After that, turn whatever direction you turned previously, and build another row. Turn the same direction, and close off the frame. Step out of the portal, and activate it with eyes of ender.

If you are in survival mode, you cannot obtain end portal frames without using cheats. You can find the naturally spawned end portal by crafting eyes of ender and pressing the 'use' button so they fly in the direction of the portal, follow the eyes and keep using them until they go underground, then dig and you will find the portal. If you have cheats enabled on your world, you can type '/give (username) minecraft:end_portal_frame 12' and '/give (username) minecraft:ender_eye 12', make sure to replace (username) with your in game name.

No, the only way to get a return portal in the end is to kill the enderdragon. Otherwise, you'd have to die in order to get back to the overworld.

Make sure that you are in the middle block. Build the end portal with correct spacing, then hop out of the spot to put in the eyes of ender. Once they are all in, it should open.

You used to be able to but you can't anymore due to Minecraft updates. Mojang has realised you can do it, so they prevented it from happening. If you mean the end portal frames, you can't. It's like bedrock.

You have to find one of the underground strongholds when you do, look all over until you find the portal, and then you add the eyes, then you light it. And that will get you your end portal. Here's a tip too –– the ender dragon is very dangerous.
