QuestionI am physically a heterosexual male and I haven't given gender identity much thought until now. I still associate with the sex I was assigned at birth, but I also feel nonbinary now. Am I nonbinary?John “The Buster” HuhmannCommunity AnswerGender identity is how you perceive yourself. If you feel both non-binary and male, you might be a Demi boy, which is a nonbinary identity.

QuestionI am still unsure, and I'm scared that if I come out, my overprotective parent won't love me anymore.Community AnswerYour parent has loved you since before you were born. They won't stop now. However, if you're really concerned, you can keep it to yourself. You never have to come out if you don't want to.

QuestionI have gender dysphoria and I am a young teen who was born as a male at birth. I think I’m gender-fluid. I still identify as a guy. How do I come straight with my parents about it?John “The Buster” HuhmannCommunity AnswerJust tell them what you're going through, and see what they say. Hopefully they're supportive and love you just the same, as mine were. If they're not, remember that it's not your fault. You can't control what people do or how they react, but you can control your actions and how you respond to them.

QuestionI am AFAB, and some days I want to be male, but others I like being she and want to use she/they. Other times I feel I have no gender. Sometimes I feel everything at once. What label is closest to me?Thatonequeerkid42Top AnswererThat sounds like genderfluid! Genderfluid is when your gender changes sometimes and you don't feel one label all the time, instead you feel like different genders at different times.

QuestionI asked my friends what my name would be as a boy, and they chose Ethan. I really like that name, and am suddenly questioning my gender identity. But it's weird, because I like fashion. Am I trans?Thatonequeerkid42Top AnswererYour gender expression is completely separate from your gender identity. You could try out using a different name and pronouns for a bit and see if it fits you, or you could look into different labels if you like.
-
QuestionI like dressing femininely and I'm AFAB but I don't really like being called a girl. Am I nonbinary or a demigirl, or something else?Thatonequeerkid42Top AnswererIf you feel the labels nonbinary or demigirl fit you, then you can use those! Dressing femininely doesn't define your gender, so you could be nonbinary. Try out different labels to see what fits! You can also just go unlabeled if you want.

QuestionI've discovered a gender known as cryptogender, and I feel like it fits me. However, there's not much information about it and I'm not sure if it's a real gender, so what should I do?Thatonequeerkid42Top AnswererCryptogender is defined as a gender you can't describe or define in human terms. It seems to be a relatively uncommon gender label, but if it's what feels right for you, go ahead and use it!

QuestionI'm AFAB, though sometimes I feel more nonbinary or more male. Does this mean I'm genderfluid?Thatonequeerkid42Top AnswererIt sounds like you're genderfluid to me! If you only feel nonbinary or male, but not female, you could also be genderfaun.

QuestionI'm AFAB, and prefer he/they and having a masc/androgynous body. I have gender dysphoria. But I prefer wearing fem clothes. I don't feel like a girl or boy, but I don't feel exactly NB either. Help?Community AnswerYou might be agender, bigender, or demigender. Agender is when you have no gender. Demigender is when you partly identify as a different gender, and bigender is when you have 2 genders.

QuestionI’d like to do a “girl for a day" challenge to see what gender I feel more comfortable with, but I'm worried that if I do it, I’ll forget who I am.Thatonequeerkid42Top AnswererThere's no problem with doing a "girl for a day" challenge! You won't forget who you are in a single day, but you might discover something new about yourself and what you feel comfortable with.

QuestionI was assigned female at birth, but I like using he/they pronouns. I like being a girl a little, but I also wanna be a boy. What do I do?NicoTop AnswererTry to experiment with different labels and see what you are comfortable with—it’s possible you could be demiboy or bigender. Remember that being a guy doesn’t matter if you like being feminine, but you still want to be a guy, you can be a feminine guy and use he/they pronouns.

QuestionSo I've been thinking I'm trans recently, but then I thought I wasn't, but then I thought I was again. What do I do?Thatonequeerkid42Top AnswererYou could be genderfluid or nonbinary! You can explore different labels and find one that fits you, or you could stay unlabeled if you want to.

QuestionI'm comfortable with being a girl, but I tend to wear masculine clothes, and I don't really care about gender roles. What would my gender identity be?Luna RoseTop AnswererYou're comfortable with being a girl, which makes it sound like you're a girl. A girl who dresses in "masculine" clothes and doesn't follow gender roles might call herself a "tomboy." She identifies as a girl, but her gender expression is more boyish than average. That alone doesn't make her LGBTQ+. If you think of yourself as a girl and are comfortable that way, then you're a girl. There's nothing wrong with being a tomboy or anything else.

QuestionCan I still wear makeup and dresses if I identify as male and use he/they pronouns?RubyTop AnswererYes. Gender identity and gender expression are two separate things. You can be any gender and like these things.
-
QuestionWhat does demigirl mean?NicoTop AnswererDemigirl means having a partial connection to being a girl. For example, a demigirl person was assigned female at birth and most resonates with being female, but the other half of the person feels masculine.

QuestionMy gender at birth is female, but every day since puberty, I hate having breasts and menstruating. I look androgynous, I use the pronoun she/her in real life and he/him in social networks. Who am I?Community AnswerIt may take some time to figure it out. You experience body dysphoria and like using he/him pronouns at least part of the time. Do you wish everyone used he/him pronouns with you, or would that not fit right either? If there were a button you could press to make everyone see you as a guy, would you press it? You may be a trans guy, or you could be a nonbinary person (e.g. agender, demiguy, genderfluid, or something else). Try exploring LGBTQ+ spaces to learn more. Also, it may help to see someone who specializes in help for transgender people. If puberty is still starting, you might get puberty blockers to pause puberty while you figure this out. And once you have a better sense of it and are old enough, you may get hormones like testosterone to help your body match how you feel inside. Give yourself time to feel out what makes you happy.

QuestionI'm AFAB, sometimes it feels great and sometimes I just want to be and to look like a man. Am I genderfluid? How do I cope with gender expression and dressing?NicoTop AnswererYou might be genderfluid, but you might also just enjoy dressing masculinely or as a guy. (See more in How to Know if You Are Genderfluid ). As for "coping" with gender expression, don't worry about what other people think of you, simply dress in ways that make you feel comfortable and confident.

QuestionCan online tests and quizzes determine your gender?NicoTop AnswererSometimes, but not always. A lot of online quizzes are made by people with personal experience who question(ed) their gender, and not by experts. It's better to go to a gender therapist or gender identity center and work with an expert to understand your gender if your having trouble determining your gender.
