On an exterior mount, should the shade width extend to the edges outside of the molding, or should I leave the molding exposed?

The width of the shade on an exterior mount should extend past the edges of the molding by about 1-1/2" to 2" on each side. This is suggested for security as there is usually a gap on each side caused simply by the shade's being mounted "outside" of the window frame (molding). The extra material is supposed to prevent that gap that could allow someone to see inside.

Should an outside mount for a Roman shade lay flat on the glass?

No, it will not lay against the glass. The shade will hang 4-6 inches away from the glass, since the glass pane itself is inset a few inches within the window frame. Interior mounting lets the shade hang much closer to the glass.

I just removed window blinds that were falling apart. Would a roman blind fit in the hardware left over from the old ones?

Maybe, it depends on if the brackets from your old shades are the same size and shape as needed to hold the headrail for the new roman shades. You're probably better off just using new hardware for the new shades. It'll most likely come with the roman-shade kit, and your old hardware may be worn out / weak anyway.

How do I install these on a curved window, and is it possible to do a side bracket install?

Work out projects like this with newsprint before ordering materials. Roman shades that open and close are traditionally horizontally and vertically straight. For a paladin window, place the the upper horizontal bracket across the window at the end of the window's arch. Leave the arch window space above open or cover it with similar fabric or sheer fabric folded like a fan and centered above the horizontal bracket to fill the space. This fabric would be stationary.
