    There is an alternate method. After you fill the cups with 3/4 of the batter, with a spoon, make a hollow at the center. Fill that hollow space with chocolate chips. With the batter in the cups themselves, cover the top so the chocolate chips aren't visible. After baking, the lava should flow nicely.
