A unit plan is for teachers to plan out what they're going to be teaching in a given amount of time. Usually, unit plans are based on a weekly basis. So if a unit is two weeks, it tends to be a collection of tests to make sure that the students are learning whatever the teacher is teaching during that unit, quizzes, which are smaller types of assessments, and, of course, the material that the teacher is teaching.

An "other factors" section is typically reserved for anything specific you feel is worth noting. It could be a specific student's needs, a consideration for adjacent material, or a note for subs if they need your lesson plan. You may not need to use this section in every lesson plan.

This is what summative assessments are for! The summative assessment is the "skill check" you use to determine whether students successfully completed the objective. This is what tests and quizzes are for. You might also use presentations or group projects depending on the skillset.

This happens occasionally in education. It's especially common in high school when you're covering more complex topics. While a single lesson plan usually covers a single class, it doesn't have to be that way. Some teachers will use the same lesson plan for up to a week's worth of classes if necessary. It just boils down to the objective. If the objective is complex enough that it takes students multiple days to achieve, then it's totally fine to use a single lesson plan for multiple lessons. This shouldn't be a regular thing, though.

  • Question
What are the benefits of lesson plans?
    Jill Nicole Garcia
    Community Answer
The benefits of lesson plans are two fold. First, it allows you to map out what you're planning on teaching that day, and organize everything in your mind prior to presenting it to the students. Some teachers even like to show their kids the lesson plans, as it provides them with a map of what topics they're going to be encountering. The second benefit is usually for your superiors and higher ups, as you're usually submitting your lesson plans to a department head. This allows them to monitor your teaching without necessarily shadowing your class every day. This also allows them to make recommendations about the structure of your class if something can be improved upon.

  • Question
