How can I play a PS2 game from a DVD?

You have to put the game in question into your PC’s drive, copy it, convert to iso and use a program like imgburn to burn the ISO contents onto a dvd. DVD+\-RW’s wont work, only DVD+\-r’s will.

Unfortunately, with this method you must swap each time to load a backup disc. However, mod chips or an official memory card hacked with a software called "FreeMCBoot" will allow you to bypass or ease the process of swapping entirely (at the cost of an added step, like installing the modchip, getting free MCBoot, and patching the ISO before burning).

What about a Slim PS2? There are no screws or anything to open it with.

There should be screws under the rubber boots on the bottom, and check under void warranty stickers for a screw as well.
