    Expert Answer
Reading critically is all about taking in the text at your own pace and continually asking yourself what the words mean and what context they provide for the story.
  • Question
What it means to read a text critically? How is this different from just reading something quickly or for fun?
    Community Answer
Reading critically is reading deeply and searching for different literary devices and character development in the story. Don't just skim over and leave the book with the general meaning and plot. Leave the book with a deeper understanding and a connection to it and to the author.

Practice and repetition is the answer. If you want to better understand what you are reading and writing, take notes about your thoughts on the characters, meaning of actions/scenes, and other stuff you think are interesting.
